Just because a team hasn't been mathematically eliminated doesn't mean it has a realistic shot at making the playoffs. Who here is ready to lay even money on Jacksonville, Oakland or Tampa?

Yeah but I think he's talking about reality and where the team really stands talent wise over the homer, everybody's equal, any given Sunday nonsense.
If the Jaguars were 2-1 right now they'd have no chance to get to the playoffs.

Exactly right. It's obvious to anyone without fan goggles on.
It's no different than when you're making your preseason predictions across the league. You have teams you feel have a chance at the playoffs and teams that don't.

With all there is to discuss about the NFL at this stage of the season I would think it wise for a league announcer to avoid mentioning the playoffs at this juncture.
I think you don't pick up that flag till much later in the season.
His opinion may be valid, but his timing is not so.
