Put it on the calendar, Cowboys fans. You’re going to the playoffs. Kind of.

Dallas Cowboys season-ticket owners now hold in their hands something they haven’t seen in 19 years: a ticket to the NFC Championship game.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports that the ticket is just one of three playoff game stubs included in the packet season-ticket owners will receive as the NFL season nears.

Take a whiff. Smells like a new day. Or a king-hell jinx you’ll never live down.

Rovell reports that a message tucked in the packet explains how the tickets will come online once the Cowboys clinch a spot in the postseason.

Included in this package are your 2014 playoff tickets and parking (if applicable) for two potential home games at AT&T Stadium. The barcodes on the ticket will be activated when a home playoff game is clinched and the tickets have been paid in full.

While it sounds like a gimmicky way for Jerry Jones to make a bold statement to fans, these postseason packages will likely become commonplace throughout the NFL in the coming years.

Rovell writes that the impetus behind the move rests in the poor sales NFL franchises experienced over Wild Card Weekend last season.

After NFL teams had problems selling out playoff games this past season, especially the Green Bay Packers, which required its season-ticket holders to pay for the full slate of playoff games before the team even made the playoffs, the league changed its policy requiring teams to only charge fans for tickets as a certain game was clinched.

For now, the Cowboys are the only team in the league putting playoff tickets in fans’ hands. Their early adoption has generated a common reaction on social media.

Laugh all you want, but this is Dallas’ year.

Tony Romo is all but recovered from back surgery, Dez Bryant remains one of the most dangerous wideouts in the league, and Monte Kiffin has been deboned and stuffed in a sock drawer somewhere.

All signs point to progress, which is terrifying for Cowboys fans, who can at least take solace in knowing the franchise hasn’t erased these positives with some kind of towering preseason jinx.
