Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott suffered a hamstring injury during Tuesday's practice, and it's unclear when he will return to the field.

Continue for updates.

Latest on Elliott's Recovery Timeline

Friday, Aug. 5

Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reported Elliott is expected to miss about a week, but it could stretch longer.

Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said Elliott "will miss some time" while recovering from the injury, per Bill Jones of CBS 11 on Wednesday.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was told Elliott's injury is "just a tweak."

Latest on Elliott's Practice Status

Thursday, Aug. 4

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram reported that Elliott was present at the team's walkthrough on Thursday. However, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett would later confirm that he did not practice, per David Helman of the Cowboys official website, who added that Elliott is considered "day-to-day."

Elliott Eager to Deliver on Top-Pick Potential

The Cowboys selected Elliott with the fourth overall pick in hopes he could return the team's previously dominant rushing attack to the top of the pack. Dallas ranked second in yards and fifth in touchdowns on the ground in 2014 but dropped to ninth and 21st in those categories, respectively, last season.

The 21-year-old Ohio State product remained mostly healthy during his three-year stay with the Buckeyes. He underwent a couple of wrist procedures over the past two years, but it didn't cause him to miss any of the team's 28 games between 2014 and 2015.

It's rare for teams to invest early draft picks on running backs in the current era. That shows how highly the Cowboys think of Elliott. They'll hope he can make a quick recovery so he can assume his spot as a key cog in their offensive attack.
