Randle's Return vs. Giants Considered 'Doubtful'
Sunday, Oct. 25
David Helman of the Cowboys' official website passed along the update after Randle had originally been ruled probable to return. Prior to suffering the injury, Randle carried the ball twice for 24 yards.
Randle, 23, became Dallas' top option in the running game after DeMarco Murray signed with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. Coming into the year, Randle compiled 507 rushing yards and five touchdowns in two seasons, but Murray's departure meant that he, Darren McFadden and Christine Michael were tasked with stepping in for last season's rushing leader.
Randle's position atop the depth chart is hardly guaranteed, however, meaning that if McFadden or Michael plays well in Randle's absence, either player could feasibly take over the starting duties. While Dallas was always likely to have somewhat of a timeshare at the position this season, Randle could see himself phased out of the game plan significantly if he misses a large chunk of time and either McFadden or Michael thrives.
Regardless, the Cowboys have pretty solid depth at running back—even if they lack the star power Murray gave them—so the team shouldn't be overly affected by Randle's absence.
