Lee Ruled Out for Remainder of Game After Injury

Sunday, Oct. 4

ProFootballTalk passed along the report from NBC's Michele Tafoya.

The concern for this injury is twofold for the Cowboys.

First, the 29-year-old is a key member of the defense, particularly against the run. Dallas won't be able to easily replace his presence. Second, Lee missed 31 regular-season games over the previous three seasons. In an interview with Sports Illustrated's Jenny Vrentas before the season, Lee admitted that it was inevitable critics would label him "injury prone":

That's part of the deal. It's one of those things where I try not to focus on it too much, because some of the injuries you can't control. ... But my focus is on maximizing my role, doing everything I can to stay healthy, and off the field taking care of my body. I can't go overboard on it. I've been injured a lot. Until I can stay on the field for an entire season, or a couple seasons, it's going to be there.

This setback will only enforce that perception.

It would be a stretch to say the Cowboys need Lee in order to make the postseason. They finished 12-4 and nearly advanced to the NFC Championship Game without him last year. The return of Rolando McClain will give Dallas some more depth at linebacker, thus blunting the impact of Lee's injury.

For Lee, the injury makes you question when—or if—his luck will turn around with regard to his health.
