Sorry man,

Hurd will be our #4. We will enter the season with Crayton at #3 and either Glenn or a FA at #2

I disagree, although I wouldn't be opposed to either scenario. We were very successful without Glenn's presence last season, and could do the same this year with what looks to be an improved running attack, and better receiving backs.

It's likely that any FA receiver that we could pick up this year would be, at the very best, a #2 type guy. There are several #1 type guys that may become available next year, and I'd bet Jerry already has them on his radar, and is licking his chops.

Absolutely agree.

How great would it be and the Cowboys be if Jerry were able to address the WR position much like he did with the CBs this year?

For instance, if he could resign a big-time talent (T.O. a la Newman), land a big-time proven talent (a la Pacman [assuming he stays on the staight and narrow]), then draft a potential future big-time talent (Jenkins), we'd be stocked on offense, assuming Romo keeps playing lights out.

If Jerry could pull that off, and again Romo keeps on going, combined with the talent on defense, this team could be set up to make a run for years!

I believe we actually start this year, but with a new, younger WR corp, we'd be the envy of the entire league.

What FA WR is just gonna come in and surpass Crayton on the depth Chart?

Sam Hurd cant get open... he had what 20 catches last year! If u r open Romo more times than not will find u, not sure Hird is the guy!

he looks awkward to me... He reminds me of Randal Williams!

Actually, Romo has his favorites like any other quarterback.

I wonder what the average number of catches is for most teams 3rd receivers that also have pro bowl tight ends.

I think you'll find they probably didn't catch much more than 20.

I still like Miles Austin. You guys keep saying that we need someone who can stretch the field. He's the only one of the young guys who can do that with the possible exception of Stanback.

So there are a half dozen guys who are considered "young WRs" - Stanback, Hurd, Austin, Johnson, and the two rookie FAs.

Given their various talents and the high quality WR coaching, there is a decent chance that at least one of these WRs will step up and become a viable player.

Probably keep six WRs since nothing sure about Glenn although TC may provide plenty of answers. Likely see two WR on the practice squad.

Have to consider Glenn #2 for now and Crayton #3 and based on coach's comments and the way he has looked in OTAs, I would say Stanback is either #4 or very close to it. Hurd and Austin will have to have good camps to survive with Austin maybe the most bubble guy.

Jefferson, Amendola, Bradford, Polk, and West will complete for 2 spots with the best special teams guys getting the nod. Also look for us to keep two WRs on the practice squad especially not knowing if Glenn can hold up the full season.

There is potential aquistion during TC of Chad Johnson, Roy Williams or Anquan Boldin but realistically it is a very small chance and one I doubt the Cowboys are counting on.

I would look for us to make another trade with Miami that would include Austin and/or Hurd. Parcells appartently liked both of them and they both can play special teams. Probably see something happen after Miami trades Jason Taylor for pick(s).

Looking at the WRs:
Owens - our #1 clearly and probably get a new contract before the season
Glenn - if healthy, could be a great WR corp, his last year though
Crayton - has the tools, contract, just needs to be more consistent
Stanback - can fly, looks more like a WR now, could be sleeper that surprises
Hurd - good #3 in someone's elses system maybe even a #2
Austin - good speed, suspect hands, great special team guy, his 3rd year
Jefferson - sleeper, fast, good hands, routes are 100 percent better
Polk - will be a player but think he lands on PS this year
Bradford - another potential that lands on the PS
Amendola - everyones darling, think he either makes the 53 or is cut

IMO, I think Austin and Hurd will both be traded during TC and Jefferson and Amendola make the 53. I look for Stanback to have the breakout season and become the #2 with Glenn used more in 4 WR sets to protect him. I really believe that Crayton is going to be much better but still will be a #3 and think he is much better in that position.

Going to be a good year at the WR spot regardless of what the writers think. Just don't believe Jerry wouldn't have pressed more for a WR if Garrett wasn't comfortable with what we have.

Mickey is funny with his logic. Danny Amendola made it through the draft, so no one will pick him up if Dallas waives him to put him on the practice squad?

I guess:

  • No other teams contacted Amendola after the draft
  • No teams ever lose WR's due to injury during training camp and preseason
  • We've never lost an undrafted free agent when trying to move him to the practice squad after his rookie preseason. *cough* Matt Moore *cough*

This logic is right up there with his "if he's available he can't be any good" line of thinking.

I still look at this bunch of WRs and I still don't see any players that will come in and not cause an immediate fall off of the offense if we have to start them.

And I don't see any WRs past TG that will have an impact on this offense that will be very good.

We've had terrible depth at WR the entire time since BP has taken over and I think the selection of Bennett the TE and Felix Jones as a RB who will be getting a good number of passes thrown his way with screen passes and safety valve passes will be the answer should TO or Crayton run into problems.

Other than Austin, who's at best a 5th or 6th WR, the backup WRs don't have the speed nor the separation to really be effective and take any heat off Witten and TO or to replace them.

What we have is a bunch of Craytons behind Crayton and TO and that's not very good for a team with SB intentions..

..despite what Jerry Jones wants to tell us, I think Dallas is still very much interested in another primary vet WR if they can swing a deal and it may come in TC at some point.

I just have a hard time believing that this team will run the same risk it did last year with not replacing TG with a vet WR and just rely on Crayton. If anything happens to TO next year..this offense will struggle to score and that's going to really change things.

TO has an injury history and hasn't played an injury-free season except one in the last 5 years going all the way back to his time with his first year with the Iggles.

Every since since then, he's been injured or slowed by something and not able to play 16 game seasons.

I just think Dallas must try to shore this up before the season starts.

If Crayton suddenly becomes our #1 WR due to TG not working out and TO going down due to something..

..we're in big trouble.

Like I said look for Miles Austin and Stanback to make some serious noise in training camp, they have the most upside of all...

There aren't any FA's out there I would take over these guys already on the team.

When Terry Glenn hits the practice field with his 'three cuts and it's inflamed all over again' knee let me know. I can't see how the Cowboys training staff told him he needs Microfracture surgery last season and then Jerry keeps saying he is part of the plan for 2008.

Last season we waited on him for an entire season and he gave us 2 catches for 30 yards against the Giants. We could have gotten the same thing from Hurd IMO. Now I know Glenn, when healthy, is a very good WR but the days of him being healthy are now over.
