I sit here watching the Monday night game between the Vikings and Skins and it suddenly strikes me how much different Brad Johnson is as a QB compared to Drew Bledsoe.

Arm strenght? No comparison. Drew has the stronger arm. But I have seen Johnson throw a couple long passes tonight that didn't have Bledsoe's velocity but were relatively accurate... which brings me to...

Accuracy. I was surprised by the graphic that Johnson holds the record for the most consecutive seasons of at least a 60% completion percentage or higher. Watching the guy it's apparent why this is so. He does a terrific job of putting the ball where it needs to be. Accuracy has never been a Bledsoe strength-- and that was before the debacle this past Sunday.

Touch-- honestly I think this is Johnson's big strength he "knows" how much to put on a pass which seems to makes his balls much more catchable thus driving up that completion percentage. Bledsoe's touch on short passes is in my opinion just awful.

Mechanics-- Watching Johnson setup and release the ball you wouldn't think the guy was 36. He still moves pretty well and releases the ball quickly.

Movement within the pocket. Brad Johnson doesn't have "happy feet". He moved smoothly left and right to avoid pressure. Bledsoe moving smoothly? I've yet to see it.

All in all I wonder if we signed the best free-agent QB during the winter of '05.

Oh yeah, Johnson is amazing with his knowledge of the game and awareness. He almost *always* reads the defense properly and throws it to the right man. He's really something, IMO.

I definitely would have taken for us when Tampa let him go, but I thought he might be getting too old... But the guy doesn't seem to age.

Accuracy is the key - Romo has this big time....not that I'm insinuating anything.. ;)

I agree. To me accuracy is far more important than arm strength.

Johnson's a solid-enuff QB. I wouldn't have been TOO unhappy had the 'boys signed him. But man he's thrown some floaters into triple coverage that was questionable...especially when he's had to go deep. There's been some plays in this game where I thought DBs w/better hands would have INT'd them.

He's the quintessential West Coast QB.

It's funny because I ALWAYS look at Johnson as an underrated player. In fact, I actually felt since late last season that Minnesota should start Johnson over Culpepper after the way he led that team after taking over.

Yet, whenever his name is mentioned, it is I that underrates him -- despite my feeling that every one else does the same.

He is the poster boy for the Bus-Driver. He makes smart decisions, doesn't turn it over, and is efficient with the ball. Bill has wanted a bus driver but no guy he has had here possessed any of those 3 qualities.

Are
Johnson is 14 - 29 that's under 50% completion rate. Aren't we overstating things here a bit?

Someone on the post game show of the INDY Gints game last night, asked one of Peytons receivers about how Peyton throws, and he said he throws a catchable ball.

This means that he doesn't have a bunch of fire on the ball... Arm strength is a bit overrated.

How many has he just made the smart move and just thrown away? At least 3 or 4.

Parcells was too busy trying to hunt down all of his old players to notice anyone else.

Then you have that Vikings' wideout that has dropped what 2 or 3 balls including a sure TD?

It's not a bad thing when you have someone that's good at it. Hell he was one when he won the SB in Tampa.

I still don't want one and never will.

Brad Johnson has been one of my favorite QBs for years, one of the more underrated guys in the league.

You don't built a franchise around him, but you can build a franchise with him. He's a very good player.
