Not too smart.

I have heard agents talk about the Combine Pro and Con, some agents think it can only hurt you not help you. Others say it can help boost a player who may be dropping in the eyes of the scouts.

Considering all the talks about Russel going 1st overall and Quinn falling to the 9 spot then why WOULDNT HE be there?

If I was Quinn and heard the speculation of falling as far as they are talking I would personally do every workout possible to show my skills and impress those who matter.

Going also shows a higher level of interest rather than skipping it.

Maybe he has a date or something the day of the QBs combine?

I don't disagree but I think this advice is more about the agent than the player. One thing I know is athletes are not afraid of competing.

I wouldnt call him scared lol... I just thinks its a bad choice to decline, for whatever reason, an oppurtunity where you can set yourself apart from your competition.

Granted but players hire agents and it is just as foolish to hire someone and then not listen to their advice. I'm sure the agent is telling him the reason why the combines are a mistake.

Is Ginn not in it either?

If not, maybe his foot isnt still 100%?

2 articles I've seen have said that Ginn's foot isn't healed enough to allow him to run at the combine

the point I'm trying to make is that most regarded top 15 prospects don't usually participate in alot of Combine drills since they have more to lose, than gain, by doing so

What are they gonna lose unless they get injured... which you cant really think about since you are doing non-contact drills which you are doing in workouts regardless of participating in the combine or not.

Or are you talking about putting up bad numbers and times and if thats the case... there is something wrong because these are top 15 prospects.

you can do a number of things, such as not seperating yourself physically from other prospects, or other prospects can put up better numbers than you, and jump ahead of you, you could run a slow time, you can barely bench any weight, you can look like a stiff in drills, you can throw a duck etc. etc.

if the consensus is you're a top 15 pick, you're not apt to do a majority of the drills at the combine, or if you think your body of work in college is good enough

Most of those that avoid the combine want the better conditions and more optimal situation that they get at their school pro days. Actually, it could be argued that someone passing up the combine puts more pressure on them since they then HAVE to look good at their Pro Day. While if you do not look great at the combine, you can make it up at your pro day. It seems that it pretty much depends on the agents; some like the combine and some don't.

Actually the talk about BQ dropping out of the top 5 only comes from a few so called "experts". Most of them do not see him dropping. An expert can get himself more notice by disagreeing with the majority; and since it does not seem to haunt any of them when they are wrong ( and they are OFTEN wrong), there is no risk to them.

Neither Young or Leinart worked out last year. Didn't hurt them at all. Most top prospects do not work out. He will work out at his Pro day and for Private workouts with teams high enough on the list to draft him.

I remember this kind of talk last year with QBs not working out at the combine. It didn't really hurt them much because the QBs really don't throw that many passes at the combine. They get maybe a handful of throws to receivers they are not familiar with. They get to throw much more at their own pro days and show off what they got to receivers they work with in games and practices.

I bet Leinart would have liked another chance to impress the scouts and teams. He was pretty disappointed after dropping so many spots.

But I am sure now, after it all being said and done he is pretty happy in Arizona.

EDIT: Heck, even Vince Young was kind of down about not being #1.

What could he possibly gain?

Not a single thing.

But it does bother me that he'd allow his agent to lead him around by his wang.

I don't care how they actually perform, I just want to see which ones WANT to perform. I like players that feel like they have something to prove and want to show what they "can do".
