Is it me or am I alone on this? Brandon Carr is one of my favorite players on this team. I know we give JJ a lot of flack for his decisions, but he is one of the best signings in FA in quite some time.

My favorite play of the year.

I did not know that B Carr was in a band.

Until Matt Johnson proves to be the player i believe he can, Carr will continue to be my favorite on D. Followed by Lee, Carter, Ware and Mo.

Still rooting for Church as well, but if Matt turns out to be a great player, he will ultimately be my favorite.

I think he is only a decent starting CB and is paid like a star because Jerry always panics. Rob Ryan got in his head that he needed great CBs and he could make the defense great. So Jerry invested tons in CBs only for Ryan to realize he couldn't do much on defense because the Safety play was insufficient once Church went down.

I think Carr is okay and I've got nothing against him but he isn't in the same league as players like Ware, Lee and Carter. He is more like a Spencer - a solid guy who makes some big plays from time to time. He is not one of the 10 best CBs in the league.

My cousin brought leadership to that secondary and I expect him to perform even better in 2013.

What does top 10 cb's in the league have to do with anything?

It has to do with him having a top 10 CB type salary. The year before we could have gotten that Bengals CB for $9M/yr and he was a much better player, IMO.

Jonathan Joseph? He's the guy I wanted that offseason, too. Though, I'm just as happy with Carr.

So what should we do now?

Cry and Panic?

No, the OP was saying what a great decision it was to sign him.

I'm saying he is an okay player but overpaid compared to other players at CB who provide a similar level of play for far less money than Carr.

If Jerry had managed to sign a player of Carr's ability for $5M/yr then I'd be pretty pleased with his decision. At $10M/yr I think he panicked at the CB position and overpaid.

This is what he always does. He overreacts to something that happened the previous season instead of finding good players for the team at bargain prices so that he can build a better overall roster. This is why there is always one to two fatal flaws with our team. Some position is always so weak that other teams can ruthlessly exploit us and we cannot counter at all.

The second thing he almost always does is overpay our players just as they are about to degenerate: TNew, Flo, Rat, Miles and Free come to mind.

The only reason this team has been competitive is because we lucked a bit into Witten and Romo in 2003 and were smart enough to draft Ware in 2005. You take away those moves and we would be 5-11 year after year. Instead we are 8-8.

Yes, that's the guy I was thinking of but couldn't remember his name.

Cincinnati is putting together a pretty good roster aided by the Raiders overpaying for Carson Palmer and finding Dalton in the second round.

I don't agree with this. In the free agent market it was believed by everyone that Finnegan and Brandon Carr were the two best free agent corners in the free agency class and Carr was younger. If we wouldn't have given him that contract someone else would've. The only reason the Chiefs didn't re-sign him as because they couldn't afford him.

He's better than you give you credit for. As far as him not being a top 10 cornerback? I guess it would depend on how highly you overrate other cb's in this league. Because to me there are only a few guys head and shoulders better. I'd say the Joe Haden's, the Jonathan Joseph's, the Darrell Revis' and the rest are guys who are of the same caliber as Brandon Carr. He was a good signing.

And how do you "luck" into someone? So if the Pats didn't "luck" into Tom Brady where would they be? Or if the Pack didn't "luck" into Aaron Rodgers where would they be?

He was well worth the money last year. Don't wanna say he single handedly won us 3 games, but he played huge roles in the PIT, CIN and PHI wins.

And if he's not top 10, he's 11 or 12 lol.

Take your statement and change the names in the reverse order. What are you smokin??? How many games did Carr miss last year? How many games has Carr ever missed? HS? NCAA? NFL? Ware is in another stratosphere, no argument ever...However..As much as I love Lee, he's great when he plays, but has battled injuries at every level. He could be one of the top ILB's in the game but he's way to unreliable to ever count on..Next, it amazes me that folks continually put Carter in some kind of "great player" status..POTENTIALLY he could be very good. BUT, he too has soooo many questions about health that he can't be counted on yet. He doesn't even have 12 games under his belt. Look at the top LB's in the game...NONE of them really have the injury problems our guys have had over their careers, again both have major injuries at every level...Lee is on the cuff of being a top 20 lb in the NFL right now, but Carter would struggle to make any list right now...I hope to God they play at least 14 games each this year, 16 would be a miracle..But based on history, over under on both of them is about 8...
