Brandon Marshall Rumors

I keep hearing that there is no chance RW is traded, and
i agree with that because nobody is going to pick up his contract. however what is keeping the boys from outright cutting him if they have a proven #1 coming on board. Correct me if I'm wrong but with an uncapped season that money would disappear if he's cut.
He is owed the same amount of money this year weather he is cut or on the team. He will be kept on the team as the towel boy before he get's cut this year.

Had we not dealt for Roy11, TO might still be here. Then this offseason we could cut TO and make a deal for Marshall. Our starting WR's would be Austin and Marshall. I'm sure there are plenty among our membership who wish that is what would have happened.

Yep - Marshall is markedly better than RW. I was a a proponent of bringing in RW, but I am completely disappointed in the guy. He is what he is and that isn't very good.

Had we not dealt for Roy I'm having a hard time imagining Jerry not dealing for Marshall.
No reason why Austin, Marshall and Roy can't be on the field together.

Roy's money is guaranteed. And it's not in a "cap hit" kind of way. It's a "Jerry, open up your wallet and LITERALLY hand Roy $9 million" kind of way. So Jerry isn't going to pay Roy $9 mil to play for someone else. And just because a player is visiting us means we are going to go out and trade for a player. Drafting Bryant would be cheaper than the contract Marshall would be demanding.

I would LOVE to have him here opposite Austin. He may have some prior off the field issues but he is one of the top 3-5 receivers in the game.

And poutes when he doesn't get his way, like the kicking the football in practice. Thanks, but no thanks, the Boys got their #1 in Austin, whose thankfully is the exact opposite of Marshall as far as attitude.

Easy to say when it's not your bank.
The same sentiment could be applied to every thread on these forums.

Mostly the fact that it does not make sound business sense to do so. His contract is guaranteed. You either pay him to produce for you, or you pay him to produce for someone else. He still contributes to the Offense and to winning here, just not putting up Owens-like numbers. He will have to do that or eventually he will be released. But doing it right now does not make any sense at all given the guaranteed contract.

I don't think a lot of fans on here really understand this point. It is possible to not be pleased with Roy Williams and still realize that it is bad business both on and off the field to cut him at this juncture.

I've yet to see anyone explain the upside to making that move in a way that actually makes any sense.

It happens in other sports all the time. Since the Boys paid him the $9M bonus already, his 2010 salary of $3.5M is very reasonable. A team like Denver could take Roy and a pick for someone like Marshall who they want to get rid of.

Not saying its gonna happen, but it wouldn't be a bad deal for either team. Dallas doesn't care which reciever gets more money as long as Marshall outperforms Roy on the field. Denver gets rid of a headache and gets a still productive WR and a pick(as long as its not a #1).

Yeah Denver's headache becomes our lockerroom debacle, especially after he gets his huge payday.

No thanks.

It can't be done STH. Too many people think only with a visceral gut reaction.

Look at this list of players on this team that within very few years ago were labeled busts by fans because they were not already All Pro material. This is just a list of current or future starters.

Anthony Spencer
Mike Jenkins
Bradie James
Marcus Spears
Doug Free
Tony Romo
Miles Austin

As a fanbase we clamored for Marion Barber to be THE guy, now he is and we want him gone. It is all entirely emotion driven and not sound emotion at that.

There's no chance of Roy being traded. Zero, zip, none, nada. The sooner fans come to grips with that, the better. If he and Romo do not figure out what the chemistry issue is in 2010 he will likely be gone.

I looked around on Yahoo and ESPN. I don't see these rumors of Marshall coming here.

What do you mean by "no chance, zero, zip nada."

Are you saying there is a slight chance or a maybe?

;)

Wouldnt cutting him and paying him a guaranteed 9 mil be the exact same thing as cutting TO and paying him a guaranteed 9 mil. I dont think roy will or should be cut, but I dont understand the Jerry wont do it b/c he will be admitting he made a mistake argument, or it doesnt make business sense argument, because he proved that he would admit "being wrong" or he would eat a large sum last year by cutting #81. Is the argument that he wont do either one of those things twice?

Perfectly summed up. Hopefully this fact gets out to the masses.

I doubt it's a fact rather then a personal opinion. Otherwise he would have given some reasons.

Haven't read ESPN Insider, but I can tell you what it says: "The Cowboys could be interested in Marshall because everyone knows Jerry Jones loves making a splash and doesn't mind taking chances on problem children."

Yawn.

I haven't heard ANY rumors of Marshall coming to Dallas..... I don't know where you are looking.

Nice way to try and start a thread though....
