Brandon Moore would've been a back up

obviously the boys disagree with you or they would not have signed moore and would not now apparently be talking to Waters. If they think a 36 year old is better than what we have, what does that say?

It doesn't make sense to me. They aren't always right (e.g. paying Newman $8M for pitiful performance two years ago). Or offering Namdi $10M/yr and luckily getting outbid for him by the Eagles who cut him after 1 year and is having a rough camp with the 49ers now. It appears to me they were willing to swap out Livings or Bernadeau for Moore. I'm sure both of those injury-prone guys got the message. That's my take on it.

At this point, Moore would have most likely been Dockery part two. I'm glad he stayed retired. Let's go with the youth movement. I'm ok with Arkin and Leary starting and either Livings or Bernadeau (one or the other but not both) backing up.

I thought Arkin played pretty well agianst the dolphins and so far in camp. Looking forward to Arkin having a good game vs oakland. Stack one good performance on top of another. Keep stacking.

I think they are cautiously optimistic with Arkin. But at the same time, they seem to be very optimistic about Leary and Frederick. I don't think they would want to start 3 guys in the middle of our OL with zero starting experience. Moore being a one year starter would give Arkin more time to grow and also give us a vet who knows Callahan's scheme well. I think LIvings is done and they don't trust Bern.

That's the reason he was going to be signed; Jerry said as much.

"Doing some things on the offensive line that I think will help our depth"

Enough crying about a backup lineman. He was gonna be brought in here because we can't fully trust Bernadeau to stay healthy and the team needs an established backup interior lineman (apparently not Arkin or Cook). And Livings with his knee issues is ostensibly out of the equation.

People get on Mckenzy for the bad plays he had at the start of the year but over the last 8 games of the season he was a better player than Moore. Moore was not gonna come in and beat him out if healthy.

I am not doubting Jerry said that, but realistically, how could anyone really believe that he wasn't brought in to start???

I don't mean to sound condescending, but it is pretty elementary that Jerry Jones is not going to come out and say that "Hey ... we are looking for help at guard because we think all of our guards totally suck". So going based off of what Jerry says in this instance isn't really all that persuasive. :)

It is possible that they are cautiously optimistic about Arkin, but isn't it more likely that since they are going out and trying to find his replacement that any such optimism is very slim?

Read between the lines, fella. He did NOT say as much -- he said they were doing some things to help their depth. In other words, Moore WAS going to start, allowing Costa to back up Frederick at center, which would in turn help our depth. Can we start crying now? LOL.

We're paying Phil Costa $1.35M and Ryan Cook $1.1M to be backups. Livings is going to earn more than that to be a backup.

He would've competed for that RG job and Mckenzy woulda beat him out.

Hard for Bernie to beat him out if he gets released. He (Moore) was all but a sure bet to be the starting RG.

There is no way, from what Jerry said, you can get to Moore would be starting.

Not more likely. Still a possibility, but not more likely. Moore would not have been a long term replacement for anyone. In my scenario, they like Arkin, but aren't sure he's 100% ready yet. Maybe he could come in mid-season or next season. Maybe if we had a vet at the other guard spot or center spot, Arkin would be good enough to start. He'd be our weakest link, but maybe ok to get by. But with the other 2 guys being basically rookies, it makes that proposition riskier.

I think the idea of starting an interior line of guys that have no real game experience is scary as heck. With it looking more and more likely that we'll have Leary and Frederick starting the other 2 spots, it makes sense to try to get someone with more experience out there... and they don't trust Bernadeaux to stay healthy ( or be good enough).

To me, it says they still don't like Arkin ( as Bernardeau stepped right back in with the 1's) , but that they don't trust Bernardeau or Livings and want a more reliable replacement at RG.

Obviously, if they liked what they had, we wouldn't be having here conversations.

Now we can only hope they get he deal done with Waters - better late than never.

God, can you imagine? Thank GOD the Eagles "stole" him from us! Amazing how so many people in the business can be so wrong about the same guy.

Based on those numbers and assuming the signing bonuses weren't too big, at least one and quite possily both could be gone barring further injury to any other guards.

I'm hoping Arkin and Leary start and do decent to well, Kowalski heals and is a good backup. And Costa will be a backup C/G. Use the savings to apply to Lee/Bryant/Carter etc.
