Brandon Moore would've been a back up

No, that's not what I said. I'm saying there were SEVERAL POINTS last year with Mack was better than Moore. But I have no reason to believe you know what you're talking about when you talk about the play of these 2 linemen so we'll leave it at that.

Very true - you DON'T have reason to believe I know what I'm talking about just like I have no reason to believe that you don't need a better pair of glasses. While some of these metric guys may have a flaw or two, they are generally well respected by NFL guys. And, most (if not ALL of them) said Moore was one of the best guards in the league last year and Berny was not. Period. But, what do they know.

We're paying Phil Costa $1.35M and Ryan Cook $1.1M to be backups. Livings is going to earn more than that to be a backup.

People are acting like we gave this guy $4M or something. He would've competed for that RG job and Mckenzy woulda beat him out.

Well If I ever was going to listen to you as regards O line I know better now.

And the league has no use for a player like that? Why hasn't anyone shown interest till now?

Seeing that he did talk to us and other teams early in the FA process, there was interest in him. Now, $$ and his own personal reasons may have scared teams off, but there was interest.

You don't pay 2M for the OG to be a backup. That's not the plan at least

What was last year's form? Have you watched the way he played last year? Cause I have.

I got some time on my hands. We can turn on the all 22 from any games you want from Moore last year and then compare his play to Bernadeaus. People remember Bernadeau give up some sacks to Melton but Moore had a game where he gave up a couple of sacks to JJ Watts too.

I watched Moore on the All-22. He was better than Bernadeau. Bernadeau had a couple of games where he was decent. I think he was just getting past the leg/hip injuries at that point. Unfortunately, he then declined significantly due to the shoulder injury. His best games were the first one where he played Center and the one before that.

Moore was OK all year. His biggest problem was that he went to the Pro Bowl in 2011 in Callahan's Zone Blocking Scheme. In 2012 his biggest issue was the change to a Man Blocking Scheme.

Let me engage you in an exercise then:

Pitt, is one of only a couple of common opponents both teams had in 2012. How about we watch the all-22 on Moore and Bernadeau to see how they played against Ziggy Hood etc in both of those games?

And he's play was well about average from Baltimore onwards. Shoulder injuries didn't really bring his play down.

back up, starters, whats it matter, heck, with injuries going on as they are, you never know whos going to be the starter from week to week sometimes. Doesnt matter now, hes not on the team.

LOL @ the thread title. I sincerely disagree. The "depth" line was referring to one of our starting guards in 2012 becoming a back-up in 2013.

Amen. We can argue who was/is better, or who would have started all we want. The truth is, we really don't know, and it's irrelevant because we never will.

Nice try. Both Livings and Bernadeau make more money than him. So with your logic, he was gonna replace Leary in the pecking order and be the 3rd in the depth.

2 million dollars says we're trying to acquire a quality backup. Cook was making more money than Costa at the start of last year but that doesn't mean he would've started if Costa was healthy.

lmao

It's academic now, but only $250k of the reported money for Moore was a playing time incentive. So it sounds like the team expected him to start, but that he was going to have to compete for his reps, to me.

At this point, Moore would have most likely been Dockery part two. I'm glad he stayed retired. Let's go with the youth movement. I'm ok with Arkin and Leary starting and either Livings or Bernadeau (one or the other but not both) backing up.

I thought Arkin played pretty well agianst the dolphins and so far in camp. Looking forward to Arkin having a good game vs oakland. Stack one good performance on top of another. Keep stacking.

obviously the boys disagree with you or they would not have signed moore and would not now apparently be talking to Waters. If they think a 36 year old is better than what we have, what does that say?

That's the reason he was going to be signed; Jerry said as much.

"Doing some things on the offensive line that I think will help our depth"

Enough crying about a backup lineman. He was gonna be brought in here because we can't fully trust Bernadeau to stay healthy and the team needs an established backup interior lineman (apparently not Arkin or Cook). And Livings with his knee issues is ostensibly out of the equation.

People get on Mckenzy for the bad plays he had at the start of the year but over the last 8 games of the season he was a better player than Moore. Moore was not gonna come in and beat him out if healthy.
