Question: Who do you think will have more say in who the Cowboys draft: Jerry Jones or Stephen Jones?

Scales: Jerry Jones still has final say on all draft picks, so he is still top of the food chain in the War Room, without question. But that doesn't diminish Stephen's role in the draft. Sometimes Stephen can be the "yin" to Jerry's "yang" (yin/yang = complementary forces that are inter-related).

The truth, however, is that Will McClay is the one in charge of setting the draft board, and all of the Jones' decisions come off that board.

McClay's official title is Senior Director of College/Pro Scouting. He's the one that funnels the information, and Jerry makes the final call. The most important facet of McClay's role is that he's earned the trust of the Joneses as well as the scouts and coaching staff. He has the ear (and trust) of the people he works with.

Board or no board, Jerry makes all the decisions. Who do you think made the Jaylon Smith pick last year. He has gotten more flexible and listens better, but he will still pull one out of his rear whenever he WANTS to.

I think they all build the board and the group then make the decisions. I dont think jerry over rules any decisions.
He goes with the majority.
I think jerry stepped back , let stephen step up, added mcCkay, and listen to the coaches now. since about 2012.
So bad or good it is a group effort, cant blame or credit 1 person.

I don't think it is about "majority" to the point where he counts yays and nays and goes "alright boys, that is three for Ezekiel Elliott and two for Jalen Ramsey. Elliott is the pick".

If he feels strongly enough, he can and has pulled rank depending on who makes the most convincing case.

Ultimately, he has the final say, which should be obvious.

IDK, if that were true we'd have Manziel instead of Martin.
Not that simple.

"Figuratively speaking, it got close to that. It certainly was a big debate going on, if no place else other than my mind.

"If anybody could talk me out of it, Stephen could. Let's leave it at that. Being behind Romo for those years and whether or not that was really the best way to use that pick.
I like where we ended up, but there's no doubt, there was a long thought -- at least on my part. Stephen certainly had his ideas. The rest of the room had their ideas."

Obviously he has rank but...if he's the only one in the room wanting to make a pick, he will lose that argument.

See Johnny Manziel or even Paxton Lynch trade last season.

I don't think he has it in him anymore to make a stubborn pick.

Normally I like Scales, but she blew it on this one. Need to rethink on here reporting now as to how accurate she actually is.
Se doesn't know any more on this than any of us.

I think when he's sitting in that room and gets the vibe he has few allies in the room, he'll listen to Stephen and McClay. For example, when it came time to choose between Manziel and Martin. Jerry wanted Manziel but he clearly knew the room was against him, so he went with Stephen's choice of Martin.

I think the room was more split on Smith (or was more tilted towards taking him) and therefore, Jones could more easily make that choice last year.

I'm also sure he thinks about what the media will think of him if he chooses to go off on his own.

This makes sense to me.

Jerry has a dog **** football mind.

Amazing business man, very intelligent, but he is God awful at decisions when it comes to football personnel.

He believes he's some sort of football genius because he played during WWII when footballs were round, which is the worst part.
