He'll be back in the NFL as someone's offensive coordinator next year.

Rumors have been going around for a couple of weeks here in KC that he will end up with the Chiefs as OC.

That sounds about right. Weis and the KC staff are from the Parcells, Belichick coaching tree.

That's one of about three or four different sources saying Stoops is either very interested or something is actually in the works

If I recall, Yardbarker is one of those sites that has been horribly wrong about many things in the past leading one to think they just throw out ideas/articles hoping something sticks.

Now I am not saying there is no meat to what they are saying, just that they have been dubious at best with rumors that people have posted here in the past.

Lots of noise coming out of Norman that they contacted Stoops and he's very interested

Unless they're giving him a truck load of money per year I can't imagine why he'd leave a program like he has at OU to go to ND and try and win without the ability to recruit there that he has at OU. The standards at OU really hamstring the ND coaches in terms of recruiting and that's a huge reason why they have a load of trouble being competitive anymore.

I'd be pretty shocked if Stoops took at job at ND.

Some guy from Soonerscoop.com says that Stoops is staying at OU. He said that ND offered him a contract for less money than he is making now. Sounds like an easy decision to turn that down.

Names I've heard:

Urban Meyer
Bob Stoops
Jim Harbaugh (Stanford, not Baltimore)
HC of Northwestern (Fitzpatrick?)
Jon Gruden

I'm sure there are other rumors as well.
Harbaugh and Fitzpatrick seem possible...or the guy at Cincinnati maybe.

Gruden just re-upped with the networks and is a Pro guy all the way. But maybe I'm missing something and he has ties with ND. Otherwise, I can't see it.

Stoops and especially Meyer would be taking a step down, imo. But OU has been on Stoops' case lately and he may just say "screw you"....you never know.

Why would any big time coach want to go there, EVER? If you don't win championships you're going to be viewed as a failure, and you can't recruit with the big dogs so you have to consistently out coach the opponents.

Just really seems like ND is still fixed on who they were, and not who they are.
There are several reasons why. Understand something, I can't stand Notre Dame, so I am not a shill.

1. They are on TV nationally every game.

2. You can be picky. Very under rated quality.

3. You will always have a top recruiting class.

4. If you win at Notre Dame it simply means more than anywhere else in college football for your success. If Meyer or Carroll could do what they do at Notre Dame it would be a bigger story and add to their legendary appeal.

5. When considering all of the above, it is simply too tempting to pass up if you honestly believe you can turn the tide.

One of the two worst sites on the Internet to ever give credence to. The other is Bleacher Report.

Garbage sites. The sports equivalents of TMZ.

I think they should take a look at Kelly from Cincy...he seems to be a very good coach.

You and I talked about this before. Kelly makes the most sense IMO as well. Catholic School guy, right background, highly succesful everywhere he's been, young and has excellent recruiting connections in the area. Will recruit the hell out of Ohio. I see him as a natural. You put him at ND and they are top 5 recruiting year in and year out. Those who think ND can't recruit with the big boys are high. ND just had two top recruiting classes in two of the last 3 years. When you have your own network, you'll recruit.

He found out it was a little different when you don't have Tom Brady around.

The Catholic background is HUGE. ND does not hold that mystique to most of the rest of the population (includiing me), but to many Catholics that campus is and always will be hallowed ground.

I also agree regarding recruiting....they have no problem whatsoever recruiting there. However, I do think many of their top rated recruits turn out to not be as great as advertised. A 5 star RB or WR in the midwest does not eqaute to the same in Florida...though there are exceptions.

I think ND can recruit Nationally. They can go anywhere an sign guys because of their BCS agreement and their relationship with NBC. The recruits they are getting are not producing because of the coaching IMO.

Agreed about the recruiting, including what you said in a later post.

Those that think ND is going downhill because of academic standards hurting their recruiting are misinformed or just don't get it. They have had top recruiting classes for years and esp under Charlie. Heck the excuse we heard before was that once he gets his guys in, they will win instead of relying on Willingham's recruits...well the story I read said that Charlie and ND did better with the previous recruits.

Either way, they have the clout to recruit because they can always pull out the trump card to any recruit by saying...you are guaranteed to be on TV every weekend as we are the only team with a national channel dedicated to covering all of our games. On a side note, I hate that because there have been many saturdays when there are much better games on but we are stuck knowing that ND is playing some scrub team nobody cares about.
But that is another story.:laugh1:

From the Daily Oklahoman online

NORMAN — Bob Stoops says he won't be leaving Oklahoma for Notre Dame.

"I'm going to be at Oklahoma next year," he said. "If (athletic director) Joe (Castiglione) will have me and President (David) Boren, that's what I intend to do."

Speaking to reporters Monday afternoon, Stoops dispelled numerous reports that he would be the next coach at Notre Dame, but declined to comment on the nature or existence of his contact with school officials at the school in South Bend, Ind.

"I will never confirm or deny whether I talk or not talk to anybody, and I won't be interviewing for any jobs," he said.

Notre Dame fired coach Charlie Weis on Monday, and Stoops had been rumored as a possible successor, as well as Cincinnati coach Brian Kelley, Gary Patterson of TCU and Floridas Urban Meyer.

I don't think it is that big of an advantage any more to have all their homes games broadcast on NBC. If a kid truly thinks he has the talent to get to the NFL it doesn't matter at what major college he ends up because he will get covered. Guys at Texas, OU, Florida, Bama, Ohio St., USC and so on will be on some sort of television most every week. It may not be a national over that air waves game, but they will get some sort of coverage. Recruits know what channels to watch to see the teams they are interested in attending and so do scouts and GMs from the NFL.

Cable and satellite systems are growing daily. If you don't have cable, you at least know someone who does and can watch a game at their place. And also increasing is the game packages where you can get games from outside your area. The monopoly of television coverage that Notre Dame has is not as significant as it used to be. They will get recruits, but the other major programs are also recruiting very well. It used to be that ND would win the battle for major recruits against other programs. That happens less and less.

Here is a look at the Rivals.com rankings the last few years for Notre Dame:

2005
40th

2006
8th

2007
8th

2008
2nd

2009
21st

2010
currently projected at 11th

Watched the Cinci game the other day and they said he was a strong candidate. He is demanding more money for himself and his coaches, new practice facility(they've never had one there) and several other things he wants done if he's gonna stay.
