Werder is talking as if its a HC position.

I think that was just so he could take underhanded shots at Jerry wanting to hire another puppet, since he's got his stadium now.

I hate that ed Werder....

Would be interesting to see what kind of offense the 'Boys would have with Garrett at OC or HC.

Hooray "some capacity."

That sounds like a BP role. instead of OC you hire him as "some capacity" coach :D

If it's as an OC, don't you think that will turn off some HC candidates who want to bring in their own OC?

So you're warmed up to Garrett too? The Red Sea must have spread apart today. :D

How did you get that from me mocking Ed Werder's report that Garrett would be hired in "some capacity."

He could be hired as Executive Vice President in charge of toilet paper procurement" for all we know. After all, that is "some capacity."

Is he the OC or the HC???

It seems to be, if you follow the timeline, it would be for the OC position. They interviewed JG this morning and again this afternoon,, and then, according to reports, asked to talk to Wade Phillips. It seems to be, that they locked up JG as OC and then are going after the Defensive man they want.

My money is on OC position. Which means he will not only be the head coach but be buying the cowboys from Jones.. that is my success rate on my "book its' this year.

I like the move. But, to be honest, I'd also like the Cowboys to have a backup in regards to play-calling, in case Garrett bombs that. Sparano, maybe?

Or Rivera said it was ok with him :D

as HC

but i think he would need some established experienced coordinators. a guy like dan henning is one. and well somebody to run the defense

Somebody to run the defense would be nice ;)

This HAS to be for OC.

There's no way you could make him HC without having interviewed ANY other outside candidates for the job. It would just be irresponsible.

He hasn't interviewed Phillips, Turner, Rivera, either of the Ryans... anyone!

Now it could be that Jerry is going to hire him as OC, to get him in-house and beat the Dolphins deadline, and then, if he doesn't find anyone he likes better "promote" him in a week or two.

But there's NO WAY the announcement tomorrow can be for Head Coach. It would defy all business logic. And while Jerry may be eccentric, he's too good of a business man to do that.

All the other prime canidates are defensive coaches...Phillips, Rivera and Ryan, so why would they care? A major part of being a head coach is diligating...something Parcells needed to know...and taking over a new team, especially if it's your first time around for Ryan or Rivera, having an OC in place takes some of that pressure off.

If it's Ryan or Rivera, the possibility of changing out of the 3-4 is there, which is even more time consuming.

Yeah, great post.

The more I think about it I am really excited about this. I don't really care what position it's fore I like it.

This might have already been addressed, but if we're considering a candidate for our HC, we'd only be honoring any 'deadline' from Miami out of courtesy, correct? They can't reasonably constrain our search for a HC candidate in any way, can they?
