It was a good move IMO. I assume they are at peace with making him HC but will offer the HC job to someone else as their first choice. I'm guessing they will make offer(s) with the caveat that they have to employ Garrett as the OC. It seems like a good way to go. I would expect Parcells to hang around longer if Garrett is the HC. If they hire Phillips, bye bye Tuna.
Like anything else, just my 2 cents.

I think the Dolphin deadline makes no sense if Jason is hired tomorrow as HC. For that reason I'm assuming this is for OC. And yet I could see what someone else suggested as perhaps promoting him to HC if none of the other HC candidates pan out.

I must admit I have been very skeptical of the Garrett talk simply because of his lack of formal experience. But he seems to be respected beyond his years to the point that I am very excited about adding someone of his caliber to the staff.

I must too say that I am encouraged to see BP remain in the mix at VR at least for now. I hope his sitting in on the Garrett interview is just the beginning. Do I want Parcells to have total control? NO! Would I take comfort in having his voice in the room on GM matters? Absolutely.

I think some folks are believing the worst about Jerry's intentions post-Parcells era. I think that's way premature but its just my opinion. We shall see. I personally don't think we'll ever see the mid-90's Jerry the GM ever again. I think he learned his lesson. But we'll see.

Fans get behind any hire just because it's the nature of people to want to be positive in their outlook for the future of their team. From reading the board it's easy to see our fans aren't any different than the kool-aid drinkers on the ExtremeSkins' board.

If this report proves true, and Garrett is hired as our HC, without interviewing any of the NUMEROUS, more qualified candidates for the job, then this will go down as one of Jerry's most irresponsible moves in his tenure of ownership and that's saying something!

it cannot be for HC as I don't believe the Cowboys have fulfilled the requirements for the Rooney Rule.

That isn't entirely true. As evidence I present Switzer, Campo.......

Unfortunately this could be 100% true.

Sure it has Todd Bowles was interviewd yesterday.

You never know, their could be a less publicised 'ginger rule' that says you have to interview atleast one redheaded person to be the HC of your team.

The obvious safe choice is either Phillips or Turner, both of them have been head coaches for two different teams, they were not bad coaches, but they were not very good head coaches either, they are older and more experienced, you know what you get with them.

On the other hand, you have Garrett who has never been a head coach before, but he is bright and very well thought of throughout the league, he has been offered various other positions this offseason and has turned them all down.

The chances of failiure are greater with Garrett but at the same time his ceiling is a lot higher in my opinion, in a way this is kind of like Romo vs. Bledsoe.

I´ll take Romo.

They are bringing Phillips in to offer him the DC/Asst. HC job to him. He will run the defense.

Or else they would have brought Norv in instead.

As much as I think Jason can be a good head coach now, I have to agree with this sentiment. A bunch of candidates need to be interviewed and I'm not sure ANY of the best ones (Ryan, Rivera) will be.

Don't think they can add Asst. HC to his title and still get Phillips because it's considered a lateral move. He'd have to be hired as the HC.

They are going to hire Garrett as OC and promote if they don't find a better candidate. Phillips and Reeves are too giddy about the possibility of being a head coach to care about already having an OC in place. Hiring the OC before the HC also shows him that Jerry's in charge.

I don't think Phillips is being interviewed for the DC. I think at his age he would only leave SD for a head job.

Best post ever. Everything you said from people liking it just because they will accept anything shoveled down their throats to this being a terrible move is right on the money. That idiot Jones could hire a monkey as a head coach and people would come on here saying, "I'm starting to like the move."

With the talent on this team, a monkey could probably get us a playoff win.
