Breer (MMQB) annual QB poll

We can’t say he should’ve sat because teams go on runs. We see it all the time in the NFL. A 20 point lead is nothing in the NFL. 28 points? I can see. But losing by 20 all you have to do is score and get a stop and score again and you’re back in it. And it was the Jags. It’s not like it was the Chiefs….

And for the record I’m not saying you are wrong. I’m just questioning why he gets defended like this. Nothing is ever his fault and I don’t say that because of you he typically doesn’t get much blame but like I brought up earlier his introduction to the league was so good I guess people give him the benefit of the doubt.
Forced me to go do some research. Only 6 times has a team overcome a 20 or more point lead in the playoffs in the SB era. That's over 550 games.

Other than the epic Oilers \ Bills game, all the rest have been this century. Go figure. So 5 out of 298 playoff games this century or .017. So, while I understand that a 20 point lead isn't safe and wouldn't sit my starter either, I think we gotta conclude they shoulda won that game & the Charger D has to take a lot of the blame.

I simply don't believe he's been at fault for their post season issues. I've watched him play quite a bit & i'm not saying he's always perfect but he has played at a very high level moreso than not. Hopefully this year they have some luck with health and we'll get a better opportunity to evaluate his abilities.

Better question:

So why did so many mouth-breathers routinely bash their favorite team's top 10 QB?

If the shoe fits......
OK mouth breather. Since you apparently can't follow along, this was from the OP.
"This is the highest Prescott has ever ranked on the list—he was last on it at 11th in 2024, and his high-water mark and only top-10 finish was ninth in ’20."

Thefore, prior to now, I could have only "bashed" him one year when he was top 10 according to this poll. Therefore, my question, why in the H has so much time been spent by folks here trying to promote him as a top 5 QB in all those years he was nowhere near it according to these league sources?

I rarely bash Prescott. I bash the ridiculous levels & flawed arguments some have gone to in order to promote & defend him. If folks had been ranking him the way the league sources have all these years, you'd probably not heard a peep out of me about it.

You don't sign that level QB to multiple contracts & keep him highest paid. The owner who did that & the "fans" who supported it are the ultimate mouth breathers.

Feels like its been more than that.

Well in the playoffs yeah because typically teams don't go up 3 scores and lose. Its usually a route. I was more so speaking on games in general....though I do remember Mahomes coming back on the Texans and Pats coming back on the Falcons in the SB.....

I just don't feel 20 is a safe enough lead especially scoring 3 points in the 2nd half.

I mean we just saw the Eagles last year go up 21-0 to the Cowboys and lose lol. The worst defense in the league stopped them.

I think most of us supported re-signing him and Lamb far earlier than they signed for. What Jerry signed them to was his own doing. You can't wait until everyone gets paid 55 million and then try to bargin with Dak who was coming off a All Pro.

And I get you guys dislike Dak but a true mouth breather would've let Dak go after getting a All Pro. Its just never been done in the history of the NFL. No front office has never had a guy grab a All Pro and let him walk at the QB position.

For most of his career he’s has Keenan Allen, McConkey, Hunter Henry, Ekeler, Mike Williams, Jared Cook, Quentin Johnston…just got Omarion Hampton(hurt) and Gasden and Njoku now.

He’s had weapons. People want to argue about his offensive line…ok a poor offensive line is an excuse not to win a SB. It’s not an excuse to not make the playoffs. We saw rookie CJ Stroud take a bad offensive line to the playoffs. We saw Burrow take a bad offensive line to the SB…we aren’t asking him to win with a porous line just get to the playoffs it’s such a low bar. Excuses continue to get made for him.
I have a sneaky suspicion you haven’t watched him play. :muttley:

All QB's who win a SB need a pretty complete team. Never said otherwise.

Burrows is elite but what he's getting as support is right off the Jerry marketing plan. Haslam should pay Jerry some royalties. Keep a few offensive stars, because offense sells & keeps the fans engaged while doing the bare minimum on the rest of the team.

Note that I haven't said any team Dak has been on has been championship worthy (Maybe the 16 team if things fell just right). What I have always said is that Dak hasn't been good enough. Other QB's could have gotten those same teams further.

We haven't seen the current team play a single game but give me a QB like Burrows and I'm twitching about the possibilites even though it's not a "perfect roster". I guarantee Vegas would also change their odds.

There are clearly QB's who can do more with less. After that group, they better play really clean ball and have a very good cast around them. You move on from those at the earliest convenience.
I agree with most of what you said except the moving on part. Name just one QB that Dallas would realistically be able to get that would be able to elevate them. There are only a handful of them and are almost impossible to get.

They aren't behind every tree for sure but you gotta go out & try to find them. For goodness sake Darnold was bouncing around & then won 14 games two years in a row & a SB. Scared money don't make money.

He bounced around for a reason. No one else had faith in him. Hence the low contract offer he got from Seattle. I’m happy for him and he did well, but not sure most are truly convinced yet, right or wrong.

And just curious but what leads you to believe that?
It’s that or your eyes are going bad. Herbert is right up there me with the elites, maybe half a notch below. I’m giving you a hard time but watching Herbert, and I watch a lot of Chargers games, he is great, even if his team record in the playoffs isn’t that good. Getting to the playoffs and/or getting to a SB is and will always be a team effort.

Interesting. I just don't see it honestly. Every QB can make passes if they are in the NFL. Joe MIlton can throw it 100 yards and make passes. How many times is Herbert winning games he's not suppose to?

I’m not faulting Burrow solely but his body has broken down some years and it’s unfair but it’s his body. I’m not saying this makes him bad I’m just saying he’s getting a elite title for a SB from years ago and btw it wasn’t like he carried them
His play was very similar to Darnolds last run but no one would ever say that.

I’ve seen a few of Allen’s playoff games and there’s always a few players where he just does something stupid. And it’s not because he’s stupid it’s because he’s overused and too dependent on him. He’s not Mahomes. But the Bills pretend he is.

I mean even last year against the Broncos they almost won and probably do win if not for Allen’s mistakes. 16 seconds left in the half he fumbles and Broncos get the field goal. This game went into OT btw. Just stupid.

They will say he doesn’t have help and fair enough but the defense got an interception for him just for him to throw it right back….

This one is one do the most mind boggling things I’ve ever seen.

He just has these weird moments.

Josh Allen can do some great things but he does some stupid things. If Prescott did those things the media would be all over him. He makes a ton of bad decisions. I live near Buffalo and it's the same thing every year. He don't have weapons. Then in the offseason they get him a receiver and all is good until he loses in the playoffs and they say he don't have weapons.

Perfectly said.

Well, that is kinda the issue no one talks about concerning "the league". For all the labels & mantras such as "experts", "football guys", "24/7/365 talent evaluation", "no stone left unturned", my lifetime of observation has shown the vast majority of them either follow herd mentality or fiefdoms. Meaning some will give a guy who was a highly rated player in 7th grade numerous chances even though his college career nor time in the league has shown he can play or they will decide someone can't play and ignore any other evidence. Other organizations have either a GM or head coach who has a staunch set of beliefs and the organization follows them (ie, doesn't challenge them to fight for or against a player).

IMO, the majority of the league had written Sam off despite what he did in Minn AND without considering the cluster F organizations he had been with before. Your smart, independent, flexible GM's, like Schneider was more than happy to see the upward trend of a #1 pick and use everyone else's lack of interest to keep the price lower. If Roseman & Sneed had been in need for a QB, they would have been after him as well. That's what good GM's do.

Bad GM's let Darnold leave and get fired. ie, Mensah.
