The elites make passes that beat really good defense & keep the chains moving & the points coming though.

The lesser QB's walk off while the punting team comes on.

You mean like how Eli and Jay Cutler use to? There was nothing elite about them though. To me what separates the great from the good is consistency. I’ve seen Drew Lock make elite throws. But if he has to throw 30 of them how will he fair?

Did you see his last game? He had 4 turnovers. Some of them just dumb. They just blame his weapons did when he’s bad….DJ Moore should help a lot.

Actually I think i had a funeral visitation to attend that day & only saw early & late parts of the game. I did go look at the stats to refresh me.

I would have to go back & rewatch to determine how egregious the turnovers were.

Isn't this the same game where the controversial ruling on the Brandon Cooks catch?

I mean they win if he doesn’t commit 4 turnovers lol. There was one play his defense gets an interception and he throws it right back right after. This is just consistent with him. They keep asking him to do more and it’s not a winning formula. Great for my fantasy football but not winning.

The Cooks play….thats debatable. Not sure why he threw it but take that out and still an odd game.

This is absolutely the difference (between those who can make the elite throws to begin with).

But there are a lot of QB's in the NFL that can't make a lot of these throws at all or only under the ideal conditions.

Sure. No QB should be excused if the fault was on them. I saw an article where Josh was taking responsibility & said he let his teammates down.

Certainly not his best game. For me though, he played a bad game in those respects and still put up 30 against a defense that was second in yards & third in scoring. IMO, if Nix doesn't get hurt the Broncos are in the SB .... and that would have been an interesting matchup.

I will take his talent & expect it to far outweigh his bad games (which I would hope are few & far between) over an average QB who's also going to have a bad game from time to time.

Starters. Heck, even Brady flat out names QB's who do things he couldn't dream of. Obviously he is an extreme case because he could make elite throws with consistency and was mentally ahead of the game. But even for him, some things were just not on the table.

Brees is a good example. Smaller QB without the elite physical skills. But he got so good at being anticipatory, pinpoint accurate & putting the ball into places where the defender couldn't do anything. His receivers knew when he would throw it low and they would just drop down as the ball approached while the defender is expecting a tummy level pass. I charted a number of his games & he was generally around or under 5% of off target passes. That is the consistency you spoke of. He was giving his team a good opportunity on 95% of his passes. The extended drives, scoring for his own team while limiting opponents opportunities. Those things change games.

Thefore, prior to now, I could have only "bashed" him one year when he was top 10 according to this poll. Therefore, my question, why in the H has so much time been spent by folks here trying to promote him as a top 5 QB in all those years he was nowhere near it according to these league sources?

I rarely bash Prescott. I bash the ridiculous levels & flawed arguments some have gone to in order to promote & defend him. If folks had been ranking him the way the league sources have all these years, you'd probably not heard a peep out of me about it.

You don't sign that level QB to multiple contracts & keep him highest paid. The owner who did that & the "fans" who supported it are the ultimate mouth breathers.

PREDICTIVE indeed. They saw everything he did each & every year & had him outside the top 10 almost each year. LOL

I'm not making this argument because Herbert is ranked ahead of Dak. I'm trying to understand the criteria being used to rank him so highly.

Herbert has now been in the NFL for six seasons and has made three playoff starts. His postseason record is 0-3, and across those three games he has completed 58 of 106 passes (just 54.7%) for 674 yards, 2 TDs and 4 INTs.

That's a pretty small sample, so I'm not suggesting three games define his career. Look, Herbert clearly has talent, and I'm not arguing otherwise. His regular-season production is impressive. But there's a difference between projecting what a quarterback will accomplish and ranking him based on what he has actually accomplished.

I hear the same argument every year about Herbert being an elite/top-tier QB, and I'm genuinely curious what I'm missing. Six years into his career, he still hasn't won a playoff game.

If we're ranking quarterbacks based on talent and potential, that's one conversation. If we're ranking them based on actual performance and accomplishments, I don't understand how Herbert consistently gets ranked as highly as he does.

I agree and I like Herbert a lot but I have to rate Dak ahead of him. Have yet to see Herbert play great in a big game.
