Brees didn't always give discounts. He had to be hit with the Non-exclusive franchise tag after the 2011 season, and he didn't sign a new contract until July 13, 2012. When he did, it was the largest amount of guaranteed money in NFL history ($60 million - $40 million was paid the first year).
