Can't agree with you there. Certainly more publicized due to his "gunslinging" M.O. Certainly more loved because he laughed and slapped rear ends while he played. But he wasn't the playoff QB that Aikman was. Favre threw away many a game that could have been won. But we all have our view of it. QB debates are non-winnable.

Agreed. I do not mean to take anything from Aikman because I think he is very underrated by people outside of the Cowboys fanbase.

A good guy who used his wife's cancer and dad's death to get major face time.

A good guy who was addicted to meds and alcohol.

A good guy who is all about himself and the numbers.

I dont see him that way at all. I never have.

He was addicted to pain killers. I am not sure why any of this stuff matters.

I like brett favre the football player. He is what I want in my nfl football players.
I hope he returns I still enjoy watching him play. I have never seen him play live and I would really like to.

BS, the media is all over his nuts on that stuff. That's something he can't help, just like TO can't help but receive the media coverage he gets.

I agree with you on his wife's cancer and his dad's death. I don't think he sought that out. But this retirement stuff is definitely fueled by Favre.

NOT THE DISCUSSION OF IT. He can't help that.

But when you allow the tributes and shoot the in game interviews, and take a victory lap at Lambeau, call press conferences to announce you don't know and cry with Andrea Kramer, AND THEN KEEP COMING BACK? That is called "milking it".

And I do think that Favre has always liked the attention. He is just that way.

I hope he does come back personally.

I don't get wrapped up in the superficial stuff about should he stay or should he go. The guy can play and he's a joy to watch. I will always admire the way he approached the game. When he's gone it will be a loss for the entire NFL in my opinion.

I couldnt agree more, I had an incredibly amazing time watching him throw 6 INT's in the playoffs a few years ago.

Well let's see, Irvin is ripped for just using cocaine, Leon Lett was laughed at for his addictions, others as well, yet Favre got away with his addiction and people felt sorry for him. Aww poor Brett, he wanted to play so badly he got himself addicted.

you guys have to be qualifying for some sort of football blasphemy here.
First of all to say he doesnt compare to aikman is the worst type of homerism ive ever seen. Hes been in 2 superbowls and won the big one. He's faded quite a bit from his prime..of this theres no doubt...but in his prime the guy was one of the best qbs of all time.
Favre has a lot of ints but the packers have never been one of those ghetto teams even as hes reached his twilight..

All that said..theres another important point on why he deserves respect from you people. The guy is class. The ultimate sportsman. If more stars were like him the league would be in much better shape. I promise you that.

Aikman won the big THREE and he was the MVP of one of them. His accuracy is top 3 all time, his leadership is unmatched, his ability to WIN the big games is off the charts. Comparing Farve to Troy is blasphemy and it makes me sick. It must have been too many years since you saw a good QB.

What is that supposed to mean?

if you are referring to their lack of criminals, what about a rapist known as Mark Chmura, allegedly?

Didn't Green get charged with spousal abuse, or was it some other Packer. They have had their share of criminals. No one makes a big deal of it because those players play for a small market parasititical franchise.

Dont forget the alleged best QB of all time (after Aikman) taking ILLEGAL prescriptions for painkillers. Thats pretty ghetto.

Well that was a lovely INT he threw to the Eagles back in 2003 in overtime. any other QB would have been roasted, his was called "Brett being Brett, he's just having fun out there".

I diddnt think he could hit six, but he blew my mind and actually accomplished it. Great QB's dont give the ball over like they have a bet on the game.

Ok, I guess this is the main point of my displeasure. What do you see that makes him class?

That he concedes to all the interviews he does?

Is it class to keep accepting retirement accolades, IF, he comes back next year, for 3 years straight?

Is it class to call a press conference to announce that you haven't made your mind up? He knew it would be well attended. He knew that people thought it was an announcement of a decision. Instead, he talks about his charity event.

Is it class, if you are TRULY undecided, to give the interviews that will be run all game long as IF you are retiring? To run around Lambeau field as if it is your last game? To be carried off by teammates only to come back again?

If Brett Favre really IS class, then please stop making a joke out of your retirement intentions.

I'm NOT saying he ISN'T class. I'm saying, then act in accordance with class.

He can't help them talking about it. It happens with a hall-of-fame player.

But stop milking it. That isn't what the greats do. In fact, can you think of one NFL player (again, if he comes back next year), who did this in back to back years?

Jim Brown goes off quickly and in comparison, quietly.
Emmitt Smith, same thing.
Aikman, tearfully, but only once.
Roger, with class, quickly and quietly.
Barry Sanders, so quickly and quietly it was strange.
Elway, with decisiveness.

To keep dragging the thing out, in such a public way, year after year isn't class.

Whatever. HOF QBs get serious slack. He's earned it. One of the greatest QBs you'll ever see. 8 pro bowls, #1 all time completions, #2 in yards and TDs. He's a great player. Shut up and give him a bit of respect.

I have never respected him ever since he laid down for Michael Strahan.

He definetly screwed the Pack over last season, but that Favre Publicity Team in the booth tonight swore he would make his decision early this season.

Wow, Alexander, I had totally forgotten about that. Great point. And again, completely in agreement with his rear end slapping, eye winking, ways. :)

He's a grandstander.

If it was Emmitt or Troy in this spot you'd be crying every time an announcer didn't praise them.

Favre is a great player. The hate is uncalled for. Good fans can respect great players.

Silly, that showed how classy he is and how much he respects the NFL and his friends. He let his friend get a record.

I feel sorry for Aaron Rodgers. On one hand, if Favre retires, Rodgers faces the pressure of succeeding one of the greatest QB's in the game and a legend in the city of Green Bay. On the other hand, if Favre plays another year, Rodgers has to plunk his butt down on the sidelines for another frustrating season.
