Yep. Still remember the exact moment I got the yips in high school summer ball. Never been the same in throwing the baseball since and it flows over into my golf game still, 35 years later.
Sorry to hear that.

1 was blocked. 2 for 2 on extra points.
Right the realist in the group just like my post everyone here is shirt circling like sharks but they don't have the information bad snap block I mean they act like the dudes done already and I say he's not much like nick folk who got his career back on track Maher is probably gonna be OK;

It’s pretty much what happened to Dan Bailey. Even that UFA K we started camp with last year Jonathan Garibay. In college, he was automatic. He had a 62 yarder to win a game. I saw him play in person in college and he was completely reliable.

But something happened in training camp last year when he missed a couple of mid range FGs. He lost his mental edge. And he still hasn’t recovered. He was not signed by anyone after the Cowboys cut him last summer. As far as I know, he’s not on an NFL roster. His slide was crazy. But it wasn’t his leg that was the problem. His problem is between his ears.
And yet there are other ones that figure out a way to get back in it nick folk came back and has had a nice steady career since it took him a little bit but he got it back in Dan Bailey's case it was both mental and physical once his physical went and then he started missing it got mental so that's not a good example and I think Brett Maher is gonna be fine he literally had one blocked how do we know it wasn't just the procedure issue with the snap and the hold and he was two for two with extra points extra points were the thing he was mentally challenged with last year not field goals.. What is this place always looking for validation and think oh glad we didn't bring back that guy I think he's gonna be actually a very solid kicker this year for the Denver Broncos,,, but hey we should judge his first game which one was blocked\

Blue you make some good points. But it’s rare for a K to Come back from a case of the yips. It happens but it isn’t common.

As far as a blocked kick- most Ks will tell you at least 50% of the time it’s the Ks fault either fo a low kick or bad timing

I bet they will tell you that but I'll tell you this if you're talking about a preseason game with a new kicker that has to go through a new procedure with a snapper and a holder I'm more betting it's probably on the procedure itself... He literally never had issues with field goals he missed three field goals last year only over 55 yards.. Extra points was his issue not field goal so we can't even sit here and talk about his mental makeup until we see him in the regular season... Personally, I believe he's gonna do just fine this year.. I mean think about it if if extra points was his mental issue which it was he went two for two and he made his last one in the 49er game last year in the playoff game that means he's three for three on his extra points that takes away this thought process that he's got the yips any simply missed a field goal at 47 yards is not a Gimme and he had one blocked Oh my God it's over for Maher you'll never play well again...:muttley:

well give us some more context I mean how long were the field goals how well was the snap in the hold?? However Brett Maher last year finished off the season great 90% kicker he was not missing field goals he made his last field goal an extra point in the 49er game so let's change the title he had problems with extra points in one game basically one bad one in the Washington game and it led to the Tampa Bay game but we didn't lose a single game because of him and his field goal kicking has never been an issue... Thanks for the report though I'll worry about it we see him kicking the regular season once you get comfortable with the new team we'll see how he kicks but it doesn't look like the other guy is doing very well either/..

real story; Brett Maher missed a 47-yard field goal wide right, then had a 52-yard field goal blocked. blocked on long kick OH NO

Yeah no, our very own coaches had zero faith in him during the playoffs to the point we were passing up 3 point chances. Yeah he hit the last couple vs the niners but it was a very rocky road.

Guy was terrific and then had the worst case of the yips I've ever experienced as a fan.

For the record I'd rather have him trying to earn a spot on this team than what we have now.

52 is a long kick? Far from long enough to make an excuse for getting blocked. 60+ and you can start talking about long kick. And Maher has a huge leg. Even at 60 it’s no excuse for him. Stop talking nonsense
Are you under the impression that he was blocking for his own kick? I guess he should have thrown the block and then run back to make the kick?

And that's why you had to cut him. I was all for cutting Maher.. He was boasting about making his last field goal in San Fran, after letting the team down and missing so many before and his first one.

Screw that guy.

I feel very bad for Maher. Imagine your entire career just crumbling to pieces because you just can't figure out how to do it mentally anymore. I hope he finds success somewhere.
