I am extremely high on Brian Price.. For those who don't know he is a DT out of UCLA who was a 2nd round pick for the Buccaneers in 2010. Price has a troubled past and personal issues have kept him from fulfilling his potential so far in the NFL. Price is only 23. Price has only 3 Sacks in his short career but in watching the tape of him in college he has a ton of potential and can really get up field.

Yes, Price was signed about 2 months ago but with all the threads about our lack of action I figured I would shed some light on a move that we DID make that could end up being significant. Of course Price could continue his off the field issues and be cut by the time the season starts but if he keeps it together I honestly believe he can be a difference maker here in this 4-3.

It is true that we haven't added any pieces but if you look around the league most of the teams that are adding pieces also lost important pieces as well. We have not lost any key components of last years team and if we have a good draft/stay relatively healthy we have a chance to be greatly improved from last year. I know this board seems thrives off of doom and gloom and negative outlooks on the team but going 8-8 in the NFC East given our injuries and lack of depth I see good reason to believe we will improve this coming year and signings like Price are a very good thing.

Give me guys like Price, guys who have bounced around but have great upside and athletic ability for cheap and I will be happy.. It's a whole lot better than what teams like the Ravens are doing (Just signed Marcus Spears for 2 year 3.55 Mil dollar deal).

If he is healthy it's a home run. But it's a big if

Price was a really good college player.

I think at worst case he will be as good as Spears was in 2012.

Price played a complete season after the surgery and then sat out another season. I don't know if the surgery affected his ability, but he should be fully recovered.

I'm shocked that Spears got more than a 1-year vet minimum salary. I think his knees are shot.

Agree with everything you said. Love him on tape.. I think when people talk about our DL depth or lack there of they should remember him..

Here's hoping you are right and we found a diamond in the rough

I'm not really worried about the DL for 2013. They have far more talented options on the DLine than on the OLine and at Safety, IMO.

Completely agree.

i think the cowboys may be ok at defensive tackle this year but next they need a draft pick if not this year maybe. i just think that we have a big hole at defensive end after ware and spencer. i see no one who can bring pressure. i hope we can find a middle round draft pick that can play on third down and bring some pressure to rotate with ware and spencer.

It's hard to overlook his degenerative issues and the radical procedures he's had done to try and correct them. I obviously have my doubts he'll be able to salvage his career, but overcoming what he did and giving the NFL another shot is admirable so I'm rooting for him.

They have some options on the Strong-Side behind Spencer; however, they don't really appear to have a backup to Ware. If Ware were out for any extended time, they would probably move Spencer to the Weak-Side with Crawford and others filling the Strong-Side spot.

Having said the above, they have never really had a backup to Ware. I guess it was Victor Butler.

I'm with you. I do think we need a backup rush end, but that certainly doesn't make the position a priority.

Now, age means we'll have to address the DLine in the next year or so, unless players like Price, Lissemore and Crawford really shine, but for the moment, it's the least of my concerns.

Free safety, strongside linebacker and every offensive line position other than left tackle (not necessarily in that order) are the need positions this year. And I think we'll pick up low-priced vets at safety and strongside linebacker in FA.

An aging Ratliff who has seen better days and an unknown with Hatcher at DT. We need a DT this draft.

Hatcher's not an unknown, they have used the 4 man front over the years too.

Uh, a part time player. I'm talking full time in a 4-3. Not my idea of known.

Playing 5-tech lining up over the OG and playing DT and lining up over an OG are not that different.

I also wouldn't characterize him as a part-time player the last couple of years. I doubt there are many DL who played more snaps than he did last year.

He also is a rarity - he can probably play LDE in a 4-3, DE in a 3-4, DT in a 4-3 and 3-tech. The only position which he isn't ideally suited for is NT.

The only problem with Hatcher was between coming from a small school program and missing so much time from injury early in his career that his breakthrough year was #6 in the league. We thought so little of him that we paid Spears 3 times as much money as we did Hatcher and only brought him back after no one in the league showed any interest in him. He was definitely a late bloomer. I only hope that means he will be able to play a lot in his 30s since his body hasn't gotten the abuse of a lot of big-time football for a man of his age but only time will tell. You could easily argue that last year was the best of his career. He was a handful for the opposition all-year long.

I would like to figure out a way to add at least 3 picks in the 7th round. One guy I would take is Chris Jones of Bowling Green. He is a DT, but could play DE as well. He was a sack machine in college. I think he could be a steal. He is graded out to not even be drafted at this point in time by CBSsports.....but like I said, throw a 7th at him, instead of taking the risk of trying to sign him as a UDFA.

Just sign them as UDFA, the Cowboys usually get who they want and have been sucessful in that area.
