“@RJBrasilcdn: @BryanBroaddus so Price cleared waivers, and is property of Cowboys, and on IR?” They put him on IR yesterday.

He wasn't cut. He was waived/injured, cleared waivers and then placed on the IR.

That means he can't play this season, right?

I thought he has to wait for some games to be played before he can come back, I thought I heard something like 8 games or so...but, I could be totally wrong!

It depends on how you define cut. He was on waivers and available for other teams to sign. They "waived/injured" Bill Nagy last year and the Lions signed him off waivers and then put him on IR similar to the TE that the Patriots signed when the Giants waived him as injured.

Normally putting someone on waivers and cutting them have the same definition regardless of the intention; however, you could say that the end result is that he was not cut.

I see it as similar to players that are cut (waived) and then re-signed to the Practice Squad.

It's the offseason so none of those rules apply. He could come back if he heals and if they want him to.

I think if a player is put on the IR after a certain date(9/6/13), then he has to sit out all season unless other wise previous noted. In that case, he has to sit out 8 weeks.

I am not sure if this is correct though.

That sounds about right...

I get that its an issue of semantics but cut is often construed as "unconditional release" or the like. The other thread was making the assumption that he was no longer with the team so I phrased it as I did to dispel that notion.

Brian Price is still a Dallas Cowboy.

The IR rules only apply once the preseason starts. If he is still on IR then he can be placed on the PUP list. That goes to the beginning of the season where they are activated, put on the regular season PUP making them inelgible for so many weeks or the IR which puts him out of commission until the playoffs are over.

I have had to piecemeal all of that because the new CBA doesn't address it. That is all about money and discipline issues for the most part. I cannot find a recent version of the NFL charter so my information could be out of date.

As an aside the did make a 'marquee player' rule that allows you to designate one player on the IR that could be brought back before the season is over.

What this tells me overall though is that they value each and every roster spot.

Churn baby churn. Cowboys inferno!

Not being funny, but why do we care?

He was waived injured. If no one picked him up off waivers then IR was the only place for him to go and that was discussed in that thread, as well.

The only question is if they'll do an injury settlement with him.

I believe you're incorrect. IR is IR...and I don't think they put him on conditional IR. So he's not playing for the Cowboys this year, no matter what.

I don't believe there is a conditional IR. I have been getting conflicting reports. They changed the rules in the new CBA.

But they are not addressed in this version that I can find.

The new league year doesn't start until June anyway. So this 'year' is over in 3 weeks.

Conditional only refers to one player being placed on IR, but can return later in the season. There's an official term for it, but I can't recall at the moment.

The new league year was in March. That's why there was a mad scramble to get under the cap in March. June is only relevant as it pertains to a released player's cap number being split over two seasons.

Regardless of how it works out this speaks volumes about his role on this team, at least for this year. He clearly isnt in the plans for the DT rotation this year. If Rat or Hatcher get injured we are going to be in some trouble up the middle.

Anyway, that doesn't address the reserve list. The season hasn't started and everything I have read says they cannot come back during that season. I'm trying to find the specifics but reading corporate charters is not exactly fun.

Are you really asking why we should care if a guy is a Cowboy or not?
About this particular guy? Yeah, simply because I never got the love for him.

Guys get signed and released all the time. He's a guy they picked up off the street and never played a down for the team and probably never will.

So him going on IR vs being outright cut really isn't a big deal to me.

So it's the royal we then? I care about a guy that could potentially help us at a position of need. He would be one of the few prospects that has played well in NFL games.

I just did a search for the NFL calendar and copied/pasted the first decent link.

I didn't search for the IR thing until later, BUT what I did find was that the term I was looking for was injured reserve-designed for return.

Royal we? Not sure what you mean.

I think you overestimated his chances of contribution for the Cowboys. JMO, tho. He might have been a good pickup, but he never even made it to OTAs to even get a glimpse of what he could do for the team.
