While there's a natural incentive for Schotty to be pushing the "we can win quickly" mantra on this side of free agency and the draft, he does need to be discerning about how much he repeats those words because it's going to get thrown back in his face to a far greater degree than is fair (ie, given that player acquisition is not his chief role). He will pay the harsher price among non-discerning fans than Will McClay or the Joneses.
The attitude predictably will be to ignore the lack of depth at certain spots, the inexperience at certain spots, and to simplistically assign blame to a lack of adequate coaching. We know this because we just witnessed it... but we also already knew it because it's not like that's some new phenomenon anyway in the history of the franchise (or any, for that matter).
Still, too, there is substantial value in not setting expectations too low, as-if to make it easy to clear a low bar and gain some positive reviews at the end of the first season. I don't really need to speak to that, however, since that doesn't appear to be a danger worthy of exploring (for now anyway).
