The 49'ers were in decline and have started rebuilding. TO had nothing to do with that.

He had absolutely everything to do with that. With TO's departure, the team didn't have a strong desire to resign Jeff Garcia. If TO was a good teammate, he and Garcia would have gotten along and that tandem would have still been in SF today. Say what you want of Garcia but he was flourishing in SF. Both the system and TO was good for him. If Garcia and TO was there, they could have added other pieces and been a formidable opponent in the NFC especially since it declined in the past 3 years.

The Eagles have been anxiously trying to close that window of opportunity and OWENS did not have a hand in that. That team has been on decline(masked by the NFC mediocrity) for some time now.

That doesn't change the fact they were in the Superbowl last year. And who cares about NFC mediocrity, if it can get you to the Superbowl, that's all that matters. If TO wouldn't have caused drama in the offseason, the team could have remained focused and would have likely been in the lead of the NFC East.

The Eagles will surely blame him. They wont blame McFlabb.

Why should they blame McNabb. The only thing he has done is endured TO's criticism and been the bigger man in the whole ordeal saying that TO doesn't have to like him but that they could still be focused and win. That's exactly what your leader is supposed to say. He could have easily shot back in a very TO-like manner. If the Eagles didn't have McNabb, that team would easily be 3-8.

I will always support the team but I will never accept TO even if bringing him here results in a championship. To me, there are some things that are more important in life than winning. I never want to have to apologize for winning and if we win with TO, I can see us being called mercenaries and other garbage. I want to win the right way by bringing players who understand what the term respect means.

mr.jameswoods........ I absolutely agree with you!!!! I would rather see us get the ring with what we have! TO does not necessarily mean a championship..... see 04' eagles.

One player will not get us over the hump!

I dont see the connection. Sure he had problems and was an *** when in both org's but he didnt affect them.

There is NO DOUBT that TO makes it to the field next year. None. I would love to see him make it this year. In Dallas.

The 49ers may or may not have been in decline in 2003. Difficult to say as Owens' behavior contributed greatly to the break down of team chemistry. One thing is certain. The year before (2002), the 49rs were 10-6, Western Division champs and lost in the Divisional Playoffs game to Tampa Bay. In 2002, the 49rs offered a very nice long term contract to Owens and he refused it. He wanted to be the highest payed player on the team and the highest paid WR in the NFL. The next year, he demanded a trade and did everything in his power to disrupt the the team and force a trade. It worked and he was subsiquently traded to the Ravens. He pretty much screwed them, as we all know, and signed with the Eagles. Now, the Eagles were NFC Champs last year. They invested in Owens and elected not to pursue other options. They also elected to let certain players walk rather then sign them long term because of the cap implications. These are cap implications that may very well have not existed had the Eagles not signed Owens. Owens clearly aided in the demise of the Eagles this past season.

Owens has had a negative effect every where he's been. I don't see how any objective person could not see this.

Owen's may be on the field next year or he may not. I care little, so long as it plays out somewhere other then Dallas.

I would take him with a contract that is Dallas positive. We have Hill here to work with him and Parcells would command respect from TO IMO. Yes, he got none from Bryant but there are some differences in TO and Bryant.

I think TO played a Deion game and it backfired on him because he played it poorly by not getting along with his teammates and he picked the wrong time and team to mess with.

If you don't think 10 million dollars or so doesn't get his attention you are sadly mistaken. However, I would agree that TO may not be able to be different even though I think he can. If he can and that can be determined reasonably reliably by professionals then I say sign him to a friendly Dallas positive contract.

If he can't change then let him go.

I think it's moot as someone will pony up the bucks with a better contract than he would get here.
