He had absolutely everything to do with that. With TO's departure, the team didn't have a strong desire to resign Jeff Garcia. If TO was a good teammate, he and Garcia would have gotten along and that tandem would have still been in SF today. Say what you want of Garcia but he was flourishing in SF. Both the system and TO was good for him. If Garcia and TO was there, they could have added other pieces and been a formidable opponent in the NFC especially since it declined in the past 3 years.
The Eagles have been anxiously trying to close that window of opportunity and OWENS did not have a hand in that. That team has been on decline(masked by the NFC mediocrity) for some time now.
That doesn't change the fact they were in the Superbowl last year. And who cares about NFC mediocrity, if it can get you to the Superbowl, that's all that matters. If TO wouldn't have caused drama in the offseason, the team could have remained focused and would have likely been in the lead of the NFC East.
The Eagles will surely blame him. They wont blame McFlabb.
Why should they blame McNabb. The only thing he has done is endured TO's criticism and been the bigger man in the whole ordeal saying that TO doesn't have to like him but that they could still be focused and win. That's exactly what your leader is supposed to say. He could have easily shot back in a very TO-like manner. If the Eagles didn't have McNabb, that team would easily be 3-8.
