Bringing back Hardy on a weekly, performance-based contract

It's either you want Hardy or dont. This guy will not sign a base deal with a team that doesn't want him. That's a slap in the face. But at the same token he could use one more year to clean up his image.

It has, but I have no way of proving that or even giving that credible support because nobody has said as much. However, Gregory had this problem before he ever arrived in Dallas and DLaw's problem is not weed. It's amphetamines. That's a substance used to improve your performance, not to get high with. It's very unlikely that if DLaw was using, he started when Hardy got here. He has a four game suspension which means that he has tested dirty multiple times. Besides, Other players have also been suspeneded for usage and they predate Hardy. I think it's a little too convenient to say it's Hardy. This problem exists and has existed for a long time all over the NFL.

I'm not saying that Hardy was the reason the 2 individuals were doing what they were doing. I am thinking that maybe he was partying alongside some of these guys like Gregory and not being a good veteran influence on him. I'm just trying to think of reasons they may not want him back. Maybe it is his refusal to acknowledge any regret or any wrong doing in the altercation with his former girlfriend. I just think it has to be something big because Jerry does not usually back away from your average headcase and he does not usually worry about public scrutiny. Maybe it is just as simple as Hardy being the worst possible locker room guy ever. After all, none of his teammates are begging publicly for him to come back. The only player I have heard that wanted him back was Dez Bryant.

Anything is possible but I have read nothing that links it. I don't know. Players smoke weed, that's a problem throughout the league. I'd guess that there are a lot of guys who do that. You can't just get rid of all of them and you can't do anything unless they test dirty. I honestly have no idea but something is up.

Has it come across anyone's mind that Hardy may have been involved with and partying with our two guys that are currently suspended for drug use. One of the issues with Hardy was his partying and showing up late. Maybe Hardy does not provide the kind of leadership they want in a veteran. Instead of discouraging the young players from being involved with drugs, may be he is right there doing drugs with them. Hardy claims his girlfriend was high on cocaine and alcohol when their altercation went down. Do you think the girlfriend parties using those type of drugs while the boyfriend stays clean. There is more to this Hardy story than what we know. Dallas kept him on the team after the photos came out so they really can't use that as an excuse and most teams will not kick a guy with high potential to the side for being late to practices and partying a little and if they do then there is always a team willing to sign him. I think Dallas sees Hardy as someone who is dangerous to have on their team and it really became apparent sometime after the season ended. Just my 2 cents and opinion.

Nope they are grown men and make their own choices. If anything before you make comments as they are facts please have proof. Right now you claim Hardy turn Randy (who we all knew was a pot head) and Lawrence into drugies. It don't roll like that. I haven't heard of Hardy failing a drug test yet as far as I know.

I think it reeks of desperation that we have drafted as many DLs as we have and we are faced with a situation in which we have to sign a pass rusher to begin with. To bring him back is just an extension of that. There is more to this then what we've been told IMO. He didn't have a bad year last season and there really is no reason to think that he would not be improved this season. This stuff about the locker room or missing meetings or whatever is BS IMO. Players do that crap all the time. This is about something else, we just haven't been told what that is IMO.

We've already seen this movie. He didn't bring much value last year, I don't see the point in going back to the well.

The desperation of having to add players because the guys you have under contract are idiots doesn't mean bringing back another idiot that no one else wants to touch is a smart move.

Read my comments again. I emphasize "MAY and MAYBE" when making the statements. I stated nothing as fact except Hardy was known for partying during the season last year and showing up late for practices which has been documented. All the rest was speculation and never intended to be represented as fact. The only people that truly know what went on with Hardy while in Dallas is the guys in the locker room, coaches, owner, and Hardy himself. The coaches and owner will not talk about him and seem like they don't even want to mention his name. I don't see Hardy ever putting on a Dallas Cowboys' jersey again so it really does not matter any way.

We are thinking of rotating T. Crawford to defensive end.

We are desperate for short term DE help, yet still haven't re-signed Hardy, nor has there been any smoke trails between the two parties.

Think the cowboys are done with him

I have not heard a lot of players saying anything about Hardy. The club has not completely closed the door on this either. At this point, I think a decision is made after the draft is over and the team sees who might be available. He could still end up in Dallas.

Agree, also he played on incentive contract last year but it could have paid him 13 Million. It ended up paying him close to 9 Million and there is no question he plays for less going forward.

But the question of how much less may still be up in the air, all his potential suitors are waiting to see how the draft plays out just like you say. At that point, the contract offers and the number of suitors (if any) will determine what kind of contract he takes. My bet would be that it is something like Rolondo McClain's contract of 1 Million guaranteed with another 3 Million in incentives. Whether Dallas is one of those offers depends on how the draft plays out.

I think it depends on who you draft or who you can sign. I don't believe that the coaching staff necessarily want's him back or this may be a move to try and drive down the price. It's really hard to say at this point but because of our current situation with players, we may not have much of a choice I just don't know.

I think it reeks of desperation to bring him back. I'd rather lose without him than lose with him, as I don't think he made enough of a contribution to even consider that he's going to win us any games.

Well said. People are acting like Dallas will be getting Greg Hardy from 2013. What if he just goes through the motions again and is Greg Hardy 2015?

What a bunch of idiots. The circus last year was all for nothing.

Actually, it was a shot at a guy everyone thought would be dominant. He wasn't.

You don't tolerate massive headaches for the George Selvie's of the league. That's more or less how Hardy performed.

"The all for nothing" had more to do with having nothing for a back up QB. Not because the defense gave up 40, 30 or even 20 points a game. Were not talking about paying him for the player he was in 2013, 2014. More like the bargain player he was in 2015.

The guy sat out of football for a year and was the only formidable force on the defensive line teams had to worry about. Maybe everyone should have tempered their expectations throwing Hardy out there next to try hard Tyrone and the most movable object in football Nick Hayden. I'm going to enjoy watching this rag tag bunch next year.

I'm still for signing Hardy. Otherwise he will have a monster ear for another team. Maybe the Stealers or some team with a strong personality coach.

Like most, I was all for cutting ties with Greg Hardy. It seemed to me like he was more of a distraction then anything else. But with both Lawrence and Gregory likely being suspended for the first 4 games, I think its time for the front office to consider bringing Hardy back on a performance based contract which pays his for each game he plays. The contact could be sweetened with bonuses triggered by performance such as sacks and QB pressures and tackles for loss. Maybe this could motivate him to perform on a weekly basis? Maybe not? But if it doesn't work we can release him at any point in the season. It gives us someone to fill the gap for the first 4 weeks while Gregory and Lawrence sit out their suspensions.

Will Hardy's ego allow him to play for such a contract? He would be betting on himself but by the looks of things he doesn't have very many options at this point. Neither do the Cowboys.

Isn't this basically what we did last year? Personally, I'm all for it.
