Broaddus observation

It’s early, but alarming we haven’t heard much good from Hill. I know he plays a position that’s not glamorous. But he was stonewalled on almost every play I watched. Where as Ricky Walker stood out

Thing is they almost need Hill to come out strong because from what I read he was somewhat immature coming out of college. Those type of players will get lost within themselves faster so its important for him to have a good showing in atleast one of these pre-season games.

Loved the last line because I was concerned after the miss against Carolina last year and RIGHTFULLY SO!

Yes, glad Broaddus mentioned that. Fans have been saying this and have had concerns and at least now a local media person, and someone employed by the team is saying it.
They really need to bring in a K to compete.

Good write up from Broaddus.
  • I liked what I noticed from Taco Charlton starting at right defensive end in this game. There were several snaps where his rush on Shon Coleman and Willie Beavers affected what was going on in the pocket. Charlton did a nice job of mixing up his rush. He was able to attack from the outside, which allowed him to set some things up to the inside. The way he was able to keep these 49ers tackles off balance was impressive.
He is no threat to win DPOY, but Taco is going to make some plays this year.

Yep I just went there. Lol!

The Trystan Hill pick feels a lot like the Taco Charlton pick.
More like the Lawrence pick, based on need and they didn't have a shot at the 2 best pass rushers in that draft and didn't have a shot at the top 4 DT's in this one.

Takes some players a little longer to transition, as it did Lawrence, and he might be a little like Connor Williams was last year. He did come with some baggage but Marinelli signed off on that but expecting him to shine in his first preseason game is a little too hopeful.

Then, he may never be anything more than a good rotational player and they need those as well. He was in one of the deepest DT drafts in years so I'd give this half the season before calling him Charleton, who may yet surprise his doubters. I was one when he was picked, don't like players off good D's when they're not the best player on that D, like Spears.

My concern is that Hill had a similar reputation as David Irving in college. Difficult to coach and motivate.

Its the first game of preseason so I am not going to panic. But behind Dak, they've got nothing. Mike White did not look better than he did last year, he looked worse. The backup situation is not a lot better.

Also, as the 49ers announcers reminded us repeatedly, the 49ers 1st team DL never played a snap and neither did their 1st team offensive line. Consider that when talking about the Cowboys defensive line.

I do miss the Jimmy Johnson era of preseason, where his first offense would march down the field and score a TD. It provided a positive feedback to the team, as well as us fans.

Norv Turner offense > Kellen Moore offense.

From what I read, his problem really started when Frost went to NE and the school wouldn't allow him to transfer. He developed an "attitude" and the cause doesn't really matter but when they needed him in the game, they put him in. They wanted his body and heart, just not his mind.

Wasn’t it just when the new coaching staff came in and he wanted to transfer?

He didn’t have any issues under Frost and went sour because they refused him leaving

I could be wrong, but pretty sure that’s the story

And last favorite, Nick "Try Hard" Hayden.

Not all coaches that can coach talent are good at selecting it.

Especially this one. It's clear based on the number of misses he's been involved with that he should have no voice in the process.

"Here's who we've chosen, coach 'em up. If you can."

But enough of the Hayden's, Ryan Russell's and Joey Ivie's. Or selecting Taco over TJ Watt.

Shut up and take what we give ya!
