“@ianchisolm: Please tell me rumors about possibly drafting Austin or Eifert aren't true. Even if targets are gone just trade down.” I can't

They better consider them! I'll say it again--I'd rather end up with either of those guys than another Bobby Carpenter

They're just leaving all options on the table and plan to stick to their board (BPA). I'm fine with this.

Yep, me too. If the BPA ends up being Austin, then do it and get the guy on the field so he can make some plays. Don't draft him and let him learn slowly. Put him in and start scaring the **** out of other teams.

If the BPA is Eifert, fine, but by God use a lot of 2 TE packages with him and Witten and throw the damn ball to the rookie.

If it is Datone Jones, fine, but stick him at the 3-tech in the nickle and use him.

That's all I ask.

If true, it is what it is.

But, if you want someone to trade ahead of you to take one of these players, you must make it seem possible that you would take them in the first place.

We're fortunate. The way FA has played out - certain OL still on the market - gives Dallas a plan to fall back on should we not draft a linemen early. If there is a Draft where you can roll the dice it's this one.

I agree, and really, I'm pretty happy about how the team has been drafting since Garrett took over. They have been a pretty strict BPA team and the results have been showing it. Dez, Lee, Carter, Murray, all solid picks.

Dez became a man among boys last year. I want to see those guys stay healthy for a full season though.

Austin in the slot:D at least he's fast and can get open before Romo gets killed

Who says Romo has to get killed? There are ways to fix the OL without absolutely having to use your first pick on one.

Agree.

When I look back at the Barbie Carpenter draft, I could care less if the team had immediate needs at his position. I would have much preferred a great player at any position regardless of what players were already on the roster at that position.

That pick was awful. Good post.

I almost forgot how well the scouting dept is at finding Offensive lineman..

I would be stoked to have either one.

Good point.this scouting department sucks when it comes to O-linemen in general.

I've come to the conclusion that most fans are stupid. If we run 2TE sets, that gives us more protection with blocking and passing--and it gives Romo another option. The more I think about it, the more I like Eifert.

You can still get Warford (or Barrett Jones, most likely) in round 2. Winston, Clabo and Moore are also good options in FA.

No. You don't force an OL pick in round one if the elite are off the board.

Warford does not seem like the type of guard we want. In fact, I'd say he's the opposite.

Later than round 2, he is expected to start the year on PUP and miss the first 6 games.

And if Hanna and Eifert really come along there's always the option of using Witten as trade bait.
