My impression is that we don't anchor, we attack. There must be a Napoleon quote here. Don't make me bring up Zimmer and Read and React. (but if you make me, I'll hid behind Frederick)

Broaddus always makes it clear when something is his view and when something is what he has heard from sources.

"Sounds like Hatcher."

"I have been told different. I have always viewed Hatcher as the 3 so we will see when we get to OTAs."

"They have him playing at LDE."

"Crawford is going to play DE and maybe some 1. Albright going to work at all positions."

If you read his tweets enough it becomes clear. But obviously when he says he's been told and uses phrases like "sounds like" that is not his opinion, that is something he has heard from sources.

I still think Ratliff at 1 and Hatcher at 3 is the better combo. I don't see Hatcher handling double teams inside.

We'll just have to wait and see what the coaches think. Broadus' opinion is, well, just an opinion.

The wide bodied 1 tech? You do realize that in Monte Kiffen's system, there is no such thing as a big bodied 1 tech? There isn't even a set guy to play the 1 tech. While most of the time it was Booger McFarland in Tampa, at times even Warren Sapp lined up as the 1 tech, with McFarland as the 3, based on the alignment. And even Anthony "Booger" McFarland was all of 6'0" 300 lbs at most....

Then look at the Bears, where Rod Marinelli came from. Find the big bodied 1 tech there. Here is a hint, you won't, he didn't exist.

Exactly. Booger was 6'0" and 300 lbs. Sapp was 6'2" and 300 lbs. Height is a huge factor with being able to anchor, hold your ground, gain leverage and take on double teams consistently.

Booger, for example, was able to take advantage of his short stature and had a much better anchor for an interior DL than Hatcher possibly has. I just don't see the fit with Hatcher, IMHO.

His injury past, height, and I don't think he has enough anchor to take on double teams from interior OL. Just my opinion.

If he can anchor and take on double teams with a 3 man DL, im pretty sure he'll be ok in a 43 with 4 DL'men who are attacking the play.

He's been our best pass rushing lineman for a couple years now, i don't expect that to suddenly change.

Right, but it's a big difference when you're taking on a taller and athletic offensive tackle combined with a guard, as opposed to two interior offensive linemen. Guards are generally shorter than tackles, so they can be less athletic and can anchor much more effectively. I'm concerned with Hatcher, and Ratliff for that matter just because of his steady decline in play and injury problems.

People do realize the 1 tech is not a nt like the 34. Theyren not gonna double team the 1 every play. If they do that would be great since that leaves ware, rat and spencer 1 on 1. This d is built to get up field not to read and react. Marinelli(sp?) Said they play the pass 1st. Play the pass 2nd then they play the run.

Actually, in the 4-3 Under front, the 1 technique is going to line up a lot like Jay Ratliff did in Wade's 3-4. Of course, Wade doesn't run a traditional 3-4, as he runs a 1 gap system.

Sounds sort of funny. Crawford going to get looks at DE and 1 Tech. Sounds like a weird combo.

-----------

Funny how people are still obsessed with getting fatter, less athletic, and slower up front.

They want to attack the offense and force the issue; not react. They want the gaps attacked; not hold, read and react.

Agreed.

I worry about consistantly stopping the run with this group.

To say nothing of the depth and injury issues.

Still amazed that they didn't think enough of it to draft for it.

This draft was horrendous considering how deep it was in the trenches, and the fact we only addressed it once.

We will not win anything until the offensive and defensive lines are a focus.

I thought the same, I easily see Ratliff being able to handle the 3, but I don't see how Hatcher fits the 1. Lissemore, yes, but not Hatcher. But I'm willing to admit there may be some things about the way Kiffin plans to employ them that I do not understand.

I also think Crawford would be better as a 3 or LDE in this scheme. We'll see how it goes. I'm not going to get concerned about it until I see it.

I don't think you understand the responsibilities of the 1-tech in a Tampa-2 scheme.

I know enough that to be effective with it - Tampa used two anchoring (not fat but low center gravity guys who handle doubles) DT who could also penetrate. Offenses will run thru Dallas interior which also means more unnecessary punishment for Sean Lee as Guards will be getting to second level fairly easy.

The more I listen to reports the more I realize Dallas wasn't ready for the switch to 4-3. The draft could have helped things but Dallas didn't even make an attempt. They have become a reactionary team and only address things when it cost them games/seasons.

No, seriously. All you have to do is look at who he and Marinelli and other guys that run the same system and none of them have big anchoring type DTs. It's revisionist history to say Sapp and McFarland were those types of DTs. Sapp came into the league at 285 and at some point with TB ended up at 300 even. The only time he was at 320 was when he played in the Raiders 3-4 and he was severely overweight and had a terrible year. They went back to the 4-3 and he dropped his weight back down. Booger was 300 even his whole career playing the 1.

I have no idea if Hatcher will be a fit there, but I don't think it hurts for Kiffin to give him a shot. It may be a brief one for all we know.

After Jerry Jones said multiple times that Ratliff will be the 3 technique, I was wondering what would happen to Hatcher. Would he just play limited snaps as backup 3? Would he play the 1?

Well, Broaddus just confirmed from his sources that Ratliff will play 3, Hatcher will play 1, Crawford will play SDE (with some 1 tech), Lissemore also probably the 1.

So my guess based on previous snap counts will be something like this:

Open DE: 85-90% Ware, 10-15% Wilber
3 tech: 70% Ratliff, 30% Hatcher
1 tech: 40% Hatcher, 60% Lissemore/Crawford
Strong DE: 85-90% Spencer, 10-15% Crawford

Also possible that Wilber will not get any snaps and that Spencer will backup Ware as the open end.

Tweets below (for those who don't understand tweets, I bolded what Bryan Broaddus wrote):

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddus 14h
“@Army_MP_Cowboy: @BryanBroaddus what's the new plan for 1 Tech with release of Price today? Lissemore and who?" Sounds like Hatcher.

Jason Ramirez ‏@BigBackJay 14h
@BryanBroaddus @Army_MP_Cowboy so Ratliff can play NT but not 1 tech? I think he'll be 1 and Hatcher will be 3

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddus 13h
@BigBackJay I have been told different. I have always viewed Hatcher as the 3 so we will see when we get to OTAs.

william hopkins ‏@irish5cowboy 11h
@BryanBroaddus what's crawfords weight nowadays?I know as a 3-4 d,end they said his weight had to go up & I wondered if he was close nweight

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddus 11h
@irish5cowboy he is over 300 pounds. They have him playing at LDE.

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddus 7 May
@gmoneythomas I need to see about Price. Crawford is going to play DE and maybe some 1. Albright going to work at all positions.

What about Calloway, 1 or 3 tech?

Will Albright be backing up all front seven positions, or will they give him a chance at CB and S? He did have a nice 10 yd time.
He played some TE in training camp also.

Yeah alot of people sleep on how well Hatch has played. Sure they are old, but you have 2 probowlers, a former probowler, and Hatch who has played really well for the last couple of years. Hardly anything to cry about like what happens on this board on a daily basis.

In building a team, you will have to go young at some spots and vets at other spots, just seems like some believe we should be young at every position grouping and with how bad our drafts were til recently, that just won't happen without alot of patience.....yeah I know patience isn't a virtue seen much but it has to happen to fix this situation.

This D-line looks sketchy. We have a nose tackle playing the 3, a weak-side DE playing the 1. We have no one backing up Ware and the same guy in Crawford responsible for backing up both the 1-tech and defensive end? Not to mention that the age of our starters is 31,32,31,29.

For as much talent is on that line, it sure does seem held together with duct tape and string.

Tell that to the 49ers, Seahawks, Vikings, Texans, Skins, Bucs, etc!
Statistical analysis after statistical analysis has shown that having a good running game does NOT contribute winning in the NFL. How can people continue to ignore this?

You could ask the Bills (4th in the league), Chiefs (5th), Giants, (7th), Panthers (T-8th), Titans (T-8th), Eagles (T-8th), what having good running games did for them. Those teams, which comprised 6 of the top 10 running teams in the NFL, won an average of less than 6 games in 2012.
