@emw0830 In talking with defensive coaches that is what they are trying to sort out where you play Crawford. My hunch he ends up at one

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddusnow
@ROGUE54q: @BryanBroaddus Do you like Auburns Ford? Do you think he can help us this season?” Good player but I didn't think he was 1st

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddusnow
@thndr87: @BryanBroaddus Bryan, what do you think of Jernigan in the 1st and Jeffcoat in the 2nd?” I don't have Jeffcoat in 2nd.

@IN10SEDevilDog: is it possible Donald could slide to 2nd Rd when factor in the underclassmen?” Haven't seen all the players but no.

Seriously. What a waste of a third round DE prospect if so.

Why is it a waste? He was a 3-4 end like Hatcher. We need help at the DT especially if they're not going to bring Brent back. In fact I think it's a good thing that Crawford can move to DT it shows he is capable of doing it. Kudos to the scouts for finding a guy who can play multiple positions.

To me he definitely seems like a DE that can backup the 3. Also if they do resign Anthony Spencer you obviously want a highly capable backup who can start if needed because of the potential for Spencer being injuried again.

Selvie will be sharing time with Spencer if Spencer can even play again. Microfracture surgery is 50/50 at best.

I think he can play the 1 if he gets ready for it. I was hoping to see him at 3 and 5 some. I don't even know if he starts or rotates.

In the preseason I read a lot that Selvie was a lot better from the right side but ended up playing the left side out of necessity. He could back up both obviously but IMO he backs up Ware and Crawford backs up Spencer assuming those are the four guys in the rotation.

Whats a waste is people posting and not really knowing how Marinellis defensive line works. He doesnt use a traditional 1tech. He doesnt really emphasis a Dt being a 2 gap player. He wants both DTs to get up the field, and the ILB covers that space. What is so hard for people to understand this? Its clear as day if you pay attention to the defense.

Crawford was brought in/drafted to play 3x4 end. He is too big to play end in a 4x3. He most likely will play the 1 or 3 in a 4x3 if he has
that quick twitch which is mandatory with Marrinelli.

You're right. We should just put Selvie at the 1 technique then. Problem solved.

Let Spencer walk and play Crawford at his natural position at LE, playing him at 1 tech is a terrible idea and sounds to me like this organization just trying to get cute again. Just draft a real DT for once!

Crawford was a prototype 4-3 End coming out of Boise. When we drafted him it was with the understanding we'd have to alter what he was to make him fit into the 3-4 defense.

You obviously didn't see him in training camp last year. He had bulked up to about 296 and put on a ton of muscle.
If he comes back healthy from the Achilles okay, I suspect his position will be the 3 or the 1 if he can move and bend
like Hatcher.
