I hope
Whats a waste is people posting and not really knowing how Marinellis defensive line works. He doesnt use a traditional 1tech. He doesnt really emphasis a Dt being a 2 gap player. He wants both DTs to get up the field, and the ILB covers that space. What is so hard for people to understand this? Its clear as day if you pay attention to the defense.
I hope Dallas doesn't run out and gather talent that fits a scheme for a coach that will be gone after this next season.

You obviously didn't see him in training camp last year. He had bulked up to about 296 and put on a ton of muscle.
If he comes back healthy from the Achilles okay, I suspect his position will be the 3 or the 1 if he can move and bend
like Hatcher.

Where is the information stating he was over 295?

Seriously. Why do people send Broaddus draft questions when he openly admits he doesn't even know the players until after the season ends?

From the hype he gets around here, you would think he is a proven all pro.

I don't see anyone even listing him a starter. Saying he has a roster spot as a backup counts as "hype" now?

He's listed at 284 currently and come out of college around 275. I don't remember seeing him weighing 296 at any time but if he did then that may explain him tearing his Achilles the first day of camp. Playing at an unnatural weight tends to do that.

He can play the 3, 1, or SDE. Blessing that we have that guy around, now.

Yeah This forum seems to think this is a normal 4-3 defense where they need 1 DT thats going to passrush smaller type and one big guy who is going to clog up 2 gaps.

I like to hope and dream we're morphing into more of the Pete Carroll 4-3 defense with a hybrid front four, but we've literally just started building the line. Time will tell this off-season and draft which direction we're headed.

I don't remember exactly which of the Dallascowboys.com staff made the reference but it was done on the 1st or 2nd day of training camp just after he hurt himself. I remember Broaddus saying then that he thought he had added to much muscle to play the end effectively for Marinelli.

You must have missed the panic that set in when he was injured at the start of the season .

I doubt he ever weighed over 290. He was penciled in as the back up SDE last year.
While the BOARD had discussions on SDE or 3T, Rod M said he was a SDE when asked.

There were high hopes for him as a big guy with great college tape who had played a lot in a 3-4 where his natural pass rush ability meant very little.
When fans discussed not franchising Spencer last year, Crawford was generally the guy they assumed took SDE.

In the mini-camps we were told Crawford to SDE, Bass to 3T. Both playing at VERY high level.

Here's Goose talking about how they viewed that 6 man DL rotation.

Columnist Rick Gosselin held a chat on Monday. Here are some highlights.

Who are the Cowboys top 4 d-linemen if you don't consider Ratliff and Ware?

Last spring, the Cowboys were looking at a Top 6 defensive line rotation of Ware, Anthony Spencer, Jay Ratliff, Jason Hatcher, Tyrone Crawford and Ben Bass. If Ware is out any appreciable time, only one remains -- Hatcher. And he's playing his tail off. It isn't necessarily a matter of who the "top" ones are, it's a matter of who's left -- George Selvie, Nick Hayden, Drake Nevis, Kyle Wilber and Caeser Rayford. The hiring of Rod Marinelli last offseason as defensive line coach has saved the Cowboys. He's the best D-line coach in the business and you're seeing whyn thus far this season.

Why is it a waste? He was a 3-4 end like Hatcher. We need help at the DT especially if they're not going to bring Brent back. In fact I think it's a good thing that Crawford can move to DT it shows he is capable of doing it. Kudos to the scouts for finding a guy who can play multiple positions.

Anyone can play multiple positions. The question is can he play those positions competently.

When each and every poster who starts lamenting the injuries mentions him, that constitutes hype.

When Stephen Jones commenting on a reserve after he gets hurt calls the injury "devastating" that constitutes hype.

Stephen told me that Crawford has "special sauce". He might've made the probowl with one achillies if they would have let him play.

there is generally a lot of hype around players that an actually play.
you seem to be suggesting it isnt warranted as if you no more about DL play then Rod Marinelli.
gonna have to discount your take here as I am sure you will mine.

Even more concerning is hoping we don't pass possibly special players because they are a poor fit in this specific version of a scheme.
Good players can almost always play somewhere.

Hatcher is definitely a true 4-3 DT but he was fine value as a 3-4 DE too.

But I'd hate to pass on good players then have the next coach wish he had those guys.

Yeah but is he a "quick twitch" guy? That's what Jerry wants to know.
