Brock Purdy on why he took a team friendly contract

There is something to that brotherhood that Dak talked about. Many QBs including Purdy benefitted from Daks contract. Dak set the bar, so he takes the blame. Too much money being paid to a handful, handicaps the rest of the team. NFL has a cap, there should be a salary table, like rookies have. They don't, so get what you can, while you can. They'll chew you up and spit you out, anyway. Screw them
Yeah I’ve been thinking the league has to do something about the QB salaries. Obviously the PA would object but it’s not taking money out of its members pockets, it’s just redirecting it to other players. Yeah the QB is important but the salaries are not proportional.

That aside, folks need to stop moaning over how much Dak is paid. I can’t think of one contender that isn’t paying their QB north of 50 million per. Everyone has the same problem and THATS not the reason they can’t supplement around him well enough.

Anyone could go ask for a pay cut at anytime. The point is no one is asking for a pay cut. Some might take one if compsny was in trouble and jobs are at risk. But no one is gonna just volunteer
The comparison is athletes getting generational wealth contracts. The question is about the balance between what they player could\should get vs it's impact on everyone around him.

These teams would rather pay a decent QB like he’s Mahomes or Allen vs building a better roster.

I get it if you’re guy is great but I’d roll the dice on a Sam Darnold vs paying a guy like Purdy.

Texas has no state income tax so he's making much less than Dak despite beating Dak in the playoffs and taking his team to the Super Bowl which Dak has never accomplished.

Mentioning Prescott's name, good or bad in the same sentence as this kid is a slap in the face to him. C'mon Man!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

I'm not a CPA but I'm pretty sure this is incorrect.......
Here a copy of a standard W-2 for California residents ............

Notice you DO NOT see a Federal Payroll Tax. That's because it is part of the Federal Income taxes withheld by your employer.
***Businesses pay Federal Payroll Taxes from money withheld from their employees ( taxes withheld from employees and paid to IRS). Individuals DO NOT pay Federal payroll taxes on earned income from employers

AI
Federal payroll taxes are taxes withheld from employee wages and paid by employers to fund social insurance programs and government service

No clue why OP article is suggesting Purdy will pay Federal Income taxes AND Federal Payroll taxes unless I'm missing something.

???

You do pay tax for Social Security and Medicare (FICA). That is what is being referred to, and it is on the W2 separate from Federal Withholding.

That's a payroll tax. The individual and the business both pay this.

If we only worry about the Cowboys, why have a Purdy thread on the fan forum? Why? Just another reason to attack Dak for news from. 2 years ago. As far as it affecting the Cowboys, we left money in the cap last year, is it Daks fault that Jerry didn't use it to get another player? Just another STUPID, hate on one of own, threads. Many around here live for that crap. Have fun
You're absolutely right..... it should have been immediately moved to the 'rest of the nfl' forum, but it wasn't

Because the 49ers had an alternative, a young, but experienced former 1st round draft pick in case Purdy tried to hold out..

Mac Jones may not be their long term answer, but they wouldn't have been afraid to start him for a season.

The 49ers have a history of not reacting to any perceived leverage from a player.

The 49es have drafted 14 QBs in the past 26 seasons. They try to give themselves options at the position.

The Cowboys have drafted 6 in that same time span.that
This was why Jerry's approach to Dak's contract was flawed. He should have brought in better competition like Justin Field of Baker Mayfield. That no trade agreement was the dumbest thing that Jerry ever signed.

Purdy put the team first while dak put himself and the brotherhood of quarterbacks above the rest. Sometimes it’s not so much what happens behind the scenes but what you say publically. Daks words haunt this team yet again.

It’s your career and family to manage, Dak played it smart and gets this.

When was the last time anyone on this message board told their boss I’d take less money???

What happened while Dak was criminally underpaid on a rookie contract? Did Jerry relinquish the reigns to a real GM? Did the Cowboys Front Office make Howie Roseman type roster moves for success when they had Dak on the cheap?
What happened was that they were paying off the remainder of Romo's overpaid contract that Jerry kept kicking the can down the road on. Which is what is going to happen with the next young QB.

people get hung up on the salary per year and comparison of one QB to another QB salary.
the fact is that the cowboys have had the cap room to do what needs to be done. they have chosen not to. the all in BS from jerry is just that BS.
in the first 3 years of his first contract, his salary cap numbers were 17,19, 25....what did jerry do? yes, the last year was huge, but that happens with every large contract, because money gets pushed to the last year, they either re-up or they let them walk and take a big hit. we had 65M open on the cap this year.
to say Jerry hasn't managed the cap well and is not a player in FA to make this team better is the under statement of the year.

I am not defending Dak, his play or his salary. just that the salary and contract haven't been the show stoppers. Jerry and Stephen have been.
The first 3 years of Dak's deal were taken up with Zeke and Jaylon and others' big contracts. Before that it was Romo (see above).

This is just a cycle of stupidity that goes back years. Dak's contract is just the latest turn of the wheel. I happen to agree that Jerry and Stephen are the issue . . . because they keep giving out stupid contracts . . . like Dak's.
