When was the last time anyone on this message board told their boss I’d take less money???

You clearly aren't putting things into perspective. Lets say an employee making $50k a year is asked by his boss to take a $10k cut. That is a significant, life altering pay cut for that person. Now compare that to an NFL athlete who wants a $60 mil a year contract but is only offer $50 mil. If this person only gets 50 mil, is he really being hit that hard? It's 50 freaking million a year...

What happened was that they were paying off the remainder of Romo's overpaid contract that Jerry kept kicking the can down the road on. Which is what is going to happen with the next young QB.

I agree with your sentiment. I think all of these guys are overpaid to be honest. But I do think it's disingenuous to make it seem that if Dak took less money that Dumb and Dumber(JJ and Stephen)would be able to make serious moves. Jerry does not have the brain capacity to be a serious GM.

And yet he refuses to let anyone actually qualified take over. The role. So why would any player take less with this type of dysfunctional front office?

Was Brady a "system" quarterback? And he always took less money because he was intelligent enough to know he needed help to win championships. He never had to be the "highest paid at his position". And he also was about winning instead of "building his brand" so I guess the comparison is wasted on the majority of today's athletes.

But he didn’t. He had a max contract early on in his career. He actually made over 300 million and was the highest paid QB at one point. He took less money late in his career. I don’t think Brady was a system QB. Once developed he could have been great in almost any system

You're pretty much spot on. The Dak and Purdy contracts couldn't be further apart. It's nowhere near the 7M difference. I've explained this in another thread. It's more like 20M difference in regard to the cap. That said, what players give team friendly deals or care about how their contract affects the team? I don't know of anyone. You got Deion Sanders, Tom Brady, some rare cases. But most players don't care about team.

The contract numbers are the contract numbers. Just because they signed with 1 year left on their contracts doesn’t mean you add the last year of their previous contract to the new and call that the new contract value. That money was already owed.

Purdy’s last year dollars owed were part of his low value rookie deal. I agree their cap hits are much further apart but it isn’t because of the new contract. Contract value and cap hits are not necessarily the same.

I get your point, and you're right. But you know how this stuff works. The team that drafts the QB never gets a discount. You have to pay him market value or he walks.

Yes I know. The contracts are what they are. But the last year, or what is owed still counts in the overall structure going forward.
