If they are this far along I bet compensation has already been discussed.

There's also compensation to the Saints to consider. Broncos already gave a bunch of picks to Seattle for Wilson.

This doesn't look like a great job at the moment. They may have to make Payton the highest paid coach in history.

Payton will get $20+ million a year. Plus the team has to give up draft picks. Jerry will never agree to that

Nor do I think he should

If you look at their records, Payton and McCarthy are clones of each other

I wouldn't say Jerry wouldn't give up draft picks. However, you have to wonder the logic when him and McCarthy have returned almost identical results over their careers.

The Walmart heirs have the money. That's no issue for them. The draft picks are a problem though. I don't know how they fix that.

The Broncos need to find somebody to fix Russell Wilson. Or else that franchise is screwed for the foreseeable future

So I understand it. The draft picks is the main hurdle. And the Rooney Rule

Edit: didn't they get a 1st from the Dolphins for Bradley Chubb?

If Payton can get Russ’ head out of the clouds they become a threat to KC next year. IF

Wilson is close to being washed up. He wasn’t the same player in Seattle his final season, which is why they moved on from him. Don’t know why Sean Payton would want to return to coaching with a team with an aging, regressing QB. His QB situation with the Saints is the main reason he retired. Plus the Broncos traded several premium draft picks, first and second rounders to get Wilson. A bad QB situation and no premium draft picks for a while would make for an undesirable situation for Sean Payton.

That makes perfect sense. They need an offensive mind and I bet Wilson will rebound nicely if they hire him. Quinn never made sense. There has been Harbaugh chatter as well.

I don’t know why he would go into a rebuild situation but money can be a big morivator

Wilson is done but they can’t move on from him

I think about Fangio with that defense before I think of Payton with old sorry Wilson. However, Payton is good enough to get that offense moving with Wilson and those weapons. I feel it would be a good fit for the Broncos n Payton.
