Brooks: NFC East Rookie Grades

Any draft where you come away with a new franchise QB who was the ROTY and an all pro RB, that alone is an A+. Anything beyond that is gravy.

What in the world would be an A+ to you?

Two HOFers in the same draft. But that's a AAA+++++ draft. What.......65 Bears or something like that. Sayers and Ditka both first rounders though.

With Smith, Tapper and Gathers all set to play in 2017, the full impact of that draft class hasn't been felt yet. It was a draft class for the ages.
You can't judge a draft class....for better or for worse....for 3-5 yrs.

One hell of a year one.

Or the 64 Cowboys...Renfro (Rnd 2), Hayes (Rnd 7), and Staubach (Rnd 10). That's three HOFers.
Hmmm.... Dak, Zeke, and J Smith? That's reaching way out there, but one can dream.

Yes.
A+ ...just outstanding.

I would pose this question tough

Would you rather have:

1) Elliott, Smith, Tapper...(and the rest of our draft with Dak et al)
or
2) Ramsey, Spence, Howard (and the rest of our draft with Dak et al)

I dont agree with A +, it was a good draft though better than usual.
Everyone knew Elliot would be good, and picking at # 4 should yield a better draft than where they had picked from in the past 5 years.
Jaylon is a # 2 question mark who didnt play
Darius to me was a wasted pick, after Elliot, and signing morris, I dont get that pick at all, and he is now gone.
Rico and Tapper are still ? marks and neither played in 2016.
Dak was a good pick, and lucky one.
Brown and Collins are maybe the A+ picks to me , because at # 3 and 6 they got 2 players who contributed all season,
and played at a good level for Rookies.

Your standards might be too high. We got three starters, including two Pro Bowlers, and a contributor. That's an A+ draft.

If Smith turns out to be a star as well, then it's an out-of-this-world draft.

No team is going to hit on every pick, but getting four starters, with three of them at least being star players, would be fantastic, no matter what happens with Tapper and Gathers. (I do agree that I would not have drafted Jackson given our RB situation.)

A+ suggests perfect, and I dont think it was perfect, just real good
Dak is sort of a freaky lucky deal that is hard to grade .
The RB was supposed to be just what he was. Which is still good because he delivered and some high picks dont.

And on some of them that didnt play only time will tell.
Jaylon was a # 2 so it depends on what happens with him as to the final grade on this draft.

You make your own luck. Dallas had enough knowledge about Dak to pull the trigger before anyone else. How does that make them lucky?

You came out of a draft with at least 4 starters and two all pros. You don't see why they got a good grade? You are lucky if you get 2 starters in the draft.

Indeed.

If we're grading the draft right now, based on what we've seen so far, it's without a doubt an A+.

Looking like one of the best drafts in the last couple of decades.

Right. And it's well documented that the Cowboys interviewed Dak more then any other team. The only luck here is him being NFL ready so fast. They didn't luck into gettting him. They did their homework:

I credit a lot of that to Dak, Dak's former coaches and the Dallas' coaching staff. Both Dak and Zeke ran very similar offenses in college which enabled them to transition to NFL and more specifically the Cowboys, rather easily.

To add, Zeke outperformed what was expected, even for the #4 pick (at least what was expected from those with reasonable expectations). IIRC, the more optimistic souls were saying 1400 yards would be outstanding, and most were at a level somewhere just below that; and I don't think anyone was expecting 17 TD's.

Really? Sure, they didn't land Coakley, but this was an awesome draft. What is the sugar coating you are expecting for an A+ grade?
