I think one is a mean SOB and the other is a finesse type. I don't think Carter could fit in with the dog-like Willis, Smith, Hitner, the other Smith just to name a few guys that punish runners. They'd sniff him out like Columbo did Barbie Carpenter.

On the other hand, Bowman would ball anywhere but he'd be surround by a bunce of losers that only care about getting more of Jerry's money by snuggling up next to his *** and spewing company line every week. He'd be in the minority on how to play the right way and have his best years taken away from him by guys (ware) that want to set themselves up for life after football (in front of the camera)!

So, yes the culture wouldn't allow him to reach his full potential like SFs would because we have too many corporate football players pulling us down.

With that being said, I haven't given up on Carter like some have. I really think he doesn't trust our coaching staff, especially one for his benching.

Bruce Carter is like Keith Rivers and Aaron Curry drafted high because of their size and immense athleticism, but lack the physicality necessary to become impact NFL players. He still has time to turn it around though...

I think it would be a mistake for Dallas to give up on Carter. Some players take longer to get it. When he finally does, he'll be a beast.

I agree but there were several comparisons of the two on this forum before the season.

We were set at safety for years with matt johnson on this forum before the season as well. Now we are set with heath

What?! You mean don't give up on players immediately in a new system and tons of injuries? That's no talk for this forum!

You don't develop toughness. Carter is soft. Watch when he tackles. Ball carriers don't go backwards, they always fall forward. Only time I saw otherwise was that hit against that tiny falcon running back. Carter doesn't try to knock ball carriers out. Lee doesn't either but his instincts make up for it.

Carter looked pretty darn good in the 3-4. In the 4-3, not so much.

Also, he has been benched 2 times now right? Could be the coaches also believe he doesn't have football as his top priority.

Bowman could make a case as the best LB in the league, Carter is just another LB.

Yes I still think Bowman would be Bowman.

If I remember correctly, we had a really high grade on Bowman but went with Sean Lee in the 2nd round instead because we had Lee rated slightly higher.

If only we had two 2nd rounders that year...

We wouldn't have needed two 2nds. If we didnt trade our 3rd to move up for dez he would been there with our 3rd pick

Carter is out of position. Last year in the 3-4 he was a really good ILB. Just doesn't fit this cover 2.

I'm curious about the boards take on these two players b/c I heard a lot of comparisons before this season. One has shown minimal effort several times this year, the other plays with a ferocity of a thousand lions. My question is, do you think Bowman is Bowman even if he is drafted by the Cowboys and a part of this organization? Likewise, do you think Carter is Carter under a Harbaugh led Niners team? Is the player the problem or is it the culture?

it is the ultimate unanswered question

nature versus nurture

i think bowman is not bowman if he is drafted to play here

now, he would not be carter bad, but would not be bowman

just like i believe that jim harbaugh (as much as i dislike the niners) would have had us in the playoffs last 2 years as REAL contenders whereas garrett is happy with process and stacking and cashing his next pay check

To keep good players you pay the going rate or they go somewhere else. Or you just refuse to pay people and have the largest cap room in the league and likely one of the worst records. To think otherwise is to ignore reality....or take your agenda out for a drive.

We had a first round grade on bowman the year he came out but had a higer grade on sean lee. We lost our third that year moving up for dez and lee. Interestingly, we probably could have traded our next year's 2nd (bruce carter) for bowman that year (he went in the 3rd).

I want to see what Bruce does next year. What I know now is he was really good one year and really bad the next. I need to see which of the two is more indicative of the kind of player he really is. That'll come next year.

following him on twitter, i get the same feelings unfortunately. i'd try to trade him pronto.
He's more into Fifa on his PlayStation than being a pro football player.

Oh really? I didn't know that. I guess it was because the 9ers have two of the best ILB's in the league and we felt like Sean Lee and Bruce Carter were getting there after last season. Bruce Carter seems more suitable for the 3-4 if i'm using the eye test. He looks lost this season.
Actually, since he struggles to take on blocks, playing in a 4-3 should be better because, in theory, it allows him to run free.

He doesn't like contact, hard to be a good linebacker in the NFL if you have that problem.
