Bruce Carter

Big difference Lee had an injury history, Carter was injured. You don't draft injured players in the second round.

Maybe "you" wouldn't, thankfully the Cowboys did. If they hadn't you can bet that some other team would have. Or are you of the opinion that the Cowboys traded up to get him because they knew that he would be there in the third?

Of course you draft players who would have been a round one selection in the second if the only question is rehab and time table to becoming a contributor. Especially (only) when you have done your due diligence by having your own medical team examine him.

Blanket statements are typically a bad idea in nearly every circumstance; as yours is in this case. Although I can understand your doubts at the possible risks involved.

This guy is a game changing type of player. We got him at the right spot in the draft and I expect him to be an impact player at LB... in a 3-4 defense, these guys are worth their weight in gold. You don't pass that up easily.

So far this thread is a refreshing change from the instant gratification/entitlement crowd.

Also, the Cowboys have changed their approach to building the team from one of instant gratification to one of actually having the patience to build a team by investing in players who will contribute even if the contribution is not realized instantly- even if the team has to wait a season to see the full potential translated onto the field.

It is good that the team has invested in players like Carter. Brought in at a discount because they won't be ready to participate on day one, but who will be impact players when their time does arrive. This type of move, when practiced judiciously, is a solid approach.

A nice change in the team's strategy. Way to go Jerry and Jason.

don't care if he plays this year--just get him healthy and and up to playing strength and then maybe play him
