Bruce Carter

Carter is the type of guy who can be as good as he wants to be. The problem is that he doesn't want to be great. I've seen too many plays that he took off to feel comfortable giving him a long term contract.

Carter seems to take a while before he gets comfortable in a scheme. He was pretty bad his rookie year then came on in season two under Rob Ryan, then switched to the 4-3 and stunk again. I think he would be much more valuable to Dallas now that he knows the scheme than he would to some other team and I bet they could resign him for a reasonable deal.

Strange to say, but if they somehow resign Rolando and Carter to reasonable deals, Lee comes back healthy and Hitchens continues on his upward trajectory, the linebackers could end up being the most solid group on the roster.

oh yea he should be way easier to keep as McClain is the better LB. But with McClain's history we may have the upper hand.

Perhaps. I'd like to see the Cowboys re-sign one LB and Carter would still be my preference.

Im confused by this guy its like he has a bi-polar playing skill sometimes

My theory is that he has ADD and occasionally forgets to take his meds, but has doubled up on the meds recently.

I would really hope we find a way to keep this guy. Size, speed, athleticism. I know we cannot keep everybody, but he is one of the top 5 athletes on this team. The one thing this team lacks is explosive players...we need an explosive WR....we need an explosive pass rusher, we need an explosive DB. And he is the explosive LB on this team. With all the spread formations and pass catching TEs.....never hurts to have an explosive player at LB.

They've asked many of the players in local radio interviews who is the best athlete on the team and they've all said Bruce Carter.

With the durability issues with most of our top LB's we should aimed to bring both back.

The problem may be that both Carter and Rolando have both flashed enough that teams will be willing to pay them more than the Cowboys can.

I don't think cap space will be a huge issue next year. Neither are getting top tier contracts.

I could see a 3-4 team spending a lot on Carter. Guys who can run like Carter can are a rare commodity. Add to that the fact he had 5 interceptions....

Did Carter return from his injury in the 4th Quarter? Any idea what is ailing McClain?

I was always opposed to bringing back Bruce because he was so inconsistent.

But the guy is definitely been getting "Turn'd up" as the kids like to say these days. I'm really curious what he's going to demand on the open market.

It's been amazing how the past 4-6 weeks have played out for McClain and Carter.

I think if someone asked 6 weeks about who they wanted to keep, it would have been McClain, no contest.

And now, I'd say opinions have shifted to at least a 50-50 ratio of Carter to McClain, if not more to Carter's side.

Carter's light has seemingly come on while it seems like one issue after another for McClain.

Well to me, Carter is just a guy with the ability to raise his game to another level when he needs to do so. Really he doesn't play all out all the time, but some guys have that next level they can take it to come playoff time that others just don't have. I do believe Carter is one of those guys.

Question is are you willing to accept the mediocre play for the great plays he will make from time to time when the lights are on. The playoffs are the brightest light there is in the NFL, and I fully expect Carter to play better than we have ever seen him play cause of that.

It took him two years in the 3-4 to start playing like a semi-star.
Then we switched from him playing ILB in the 3-4 to OLB in the 4-3....two years later, he's starting to play a little more instinctively.

If we keep him and don't change the defense, he'll be an excellent player for us.

He was awesome yesterday.

Played out of his mind. Looked like a more athletic Sean Lee out there.

My question comes from paying anyone guaranteed money when there are question marks involved, whatever they may be.

Carter has his, McClain obviously has his, and Lee had them before and after we decided to pay him.

None of these financial situations are easy.

I might get lashed for this but I'd rather keep Carter than Ro McClain. McClain is not reliable with his health issue.

Right now that is not a crazy thing to say at all.

We'll be glad we have McClain against a team like Seattle but this week we'll be glad Bruce Carter is out there.
