The Bucs waived him today and I think the Boys should at least give him a long look. Backup QB worries me and the thought of Brad Johnson for a few games is not very promising. Gradkowski isn't the next coming, but is 25, mobile and has experience. Or we can wait to see if they cut Simms as well.

I'd rather see what we have in Bartel.

I'm not saying we should cut Bartel, just upgrade from Johnson. Keep him as a coach if he helps Romo mentally.

You are fools if you think Gradkowski is a step up from Johnson.

You can't be serious. Johnson is 39 and done.

I know I started this thread, but it doesn't have to be Gradkowski. My point was that we need a younger, more mobile QB to back up Romo. If Romo is out for an extended period of time we are screwed anyways, but if it's a game or two or even to finish a game, we need a QB with experience but not a 39 year old.

Chris Simms I'd consider.

for some reason I think they aren't going to cut him - likely b/c they think he's worth a pick - and if we like him, there are probably teams where he could challenge for #1

There isn't much to disagree with there.

As mentioned before, the Cowboys seem high on Bartel. Bringing in another QB to compete for the #3 spot would only take away from any reps/playing time Bartel could get this summer.

I dont know have the answer for back up QB, but I am pretty sure Brad Johnson is done.

I really dont know if Brad Johnson had to play a whole game, if we would even have a chance.

If Romo goes down, it is an automatic L IMO.

I think Bartel should be allowed to show what he's got before we start bringing in players who couldn't make it on another team.

And from what i remember, wasn't he the one that got tossed around by our defense on Thanksgiving?

I seriously don't want him from that performance.

as stated in another thread on this subject, by another poster, Brad may not be a quality backup anymore....but he is one of the best holders in the game. He and Folk have great chemistry....Brad is the Hellestrae of holders.

Simms is very gutsy, and will be a starter somewhere someday. He has to get away from Gruden.

I agree totally. We have a young QB on our roster to groom. Grad would NEVER get above Johnson on the team because he doesn't have nearly the experience. People need to face the facts of something. If Romo goes down the Cowboys are done and it doesn't matter if its Brad Johnson or Gradkowski out there.

But with Brads experience he'll at least give us a much better shot to stay in games and rely on our defense to step up and get a W, or two, for us in a pinch.
