I do apologize if this was covered, but did anyone notice Reid's handling of the rookie WR on Hard Knocks? The coach seemed to have no control of what was going on. I just watched to show, so I just noticed it.

He did seem like he was totally confused. No wonder why the special teams looked like crap.

I think it's a little over blown by the fans. We did not have the main guys that will be on special teams this year. Granted, last year the special teams were not very special at all but with upgrades like Felix Jones, Mike Jenkins and Adam Jones this special team unit should be fine.

I also believe that Wade Philips said that he was trying guys out to see how players fit.

If our ST played well last year, I wouldn't be worried about them this year. One way or another this unit must play consistently better throughout the season and the playoffs so Reid & Wade better get it right.

It isn't our return team that concerns. Sure, it would be nice to get more yardage, but it isn't like we lose field position.

Our coverage is atrocious, though. When Parcells was here we generally had very good kick and punt coverage, but now it seems useless...

With better kickoffs, it will help our coverage.

How is that different from every other team in the preseason? Ive watched at least 10 games and I havent seen one other team give up more 1 big retrun, let alone 4 in 4 tries. I remember people saying the samething last year in the preseason, then they were pretty bad all year and gave up a big return in the 4th quarter vs the Giants that led to the game winning drive.

I've maintained since the draft ST coverage was this team's biggest weakness this year. Also mentioned how this could become a serious issue if things don't shape up as Jerry won't stand for it, and Wade got booted in Buffalo largely in his refusal to fire his ST coach at the time after losing due to the "Music City Miracle."

ST coach Read seeming confused only furthers what Hostile explained in a prior post I had on this where he said Read combines techniques on coverage. Which to me seems confusing as all get out when simple would seem best.

Bruce Dehaven, a consistent stand out of a special teams coach was the Bills SP coach for the 'miracle'. He was fired that off season, although unclear if it was Wade's decision or something coming from Ralph the corpse Wilson. Wade replaced Dehaven with relative unknown Rusty or Ronnie Jones or something. The Bills relatively lousy special teams and general lack of talent contributed to an 8-8 record the next year and Wilson demanded that Wade fire Jones (and that the early bird dinner be reduced to 6 dollars at Alton's down the 20 from Orchard Park). Wade refused (based on anger of Dehaven?) and Wilson fired Wade replacing him with a lineage of awesome NFL caliber coaches (currently Dick Jauron, really, not kidding).

Also exactly zero excuses ever for not getting 11 on the field (Reid from HK). I don't care what the switches were, they get 11 on the field every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all over America, its sort of the first thing you do.

Because he believed field position would break your team in a close game.. guys didnt dress unless they contributed effectively to it...

The guy has to keep track of 80 guys to gat a look see at them. Good lord, I'd hate to see his roster notes . Probably 15 pages per game.
