Brugler 7 round mock 4/16/25

We need two DTs if we are going to be serious about stopping the run and one of them HAS TO BE A REAL NT.
I doubt they get two.

You have

3T - Osa, Thomas
1T - Mazi, Rogers

I see them getting a 1 tech and competing with Rogers. No way they give up on Mazi or cut Thomas with his contract unless he is cooked

People are obsessed with this idea that we need a speed merchant opposite Lamb. So they are willing to look beyond Golden's flaws (suspect hands, etc.) just to get someone who runs fast. McMillan is a far better choice for us if we have to go WR (and I am not a fan of another 1st round WR).

Look at Philly, they have an explosive passing game with DeVonta Smith, who is in the same class as Lamb in terms of speed, and Brown who is no speed merchant but a strong, physical WR.

If we have to go WR in this first round, give me McMillan to pair with Lamb. That's like Brown and Smith.
Another point I would like to make is that Golden is probably a better slot WR than an X when it comes to playing in the NFL. I know he played quite a bit of X at Texas, but I think that was more out of necessity since Bond was their slot. It's a lot different animal in the big boy league to play the X. Tet gives us that physicality and the play style the coaches have been preaching (being a physical team). Speed is nice to have, but the opportunities are far less to blow past a CB than it is to physically impose your will on a CB...and Tet will be a physical mismatch for almost all the DB's he'll face, especially one on one. Plus, who will help Lamb benefit the most? A physical WR who's a nightmare for DB's to content with or a 5'11" 195 WR who will have to fight through a lot of press and try to be a force on the outside? I just don't think Golden is the right WR for how the roster is constructed, and the same goes for Burden. If we miss out on Tet than the next best fit's fora true X is Harris and Higgins.

yeah three JAGS and one overpaid good player

But Little and BIg Enos know better; they have thirty years of proof!

I think we might have to come to terms with it.

With Brugler mocking him to us, and Broaddus saying stuff like this, seems to be a 'thing'

Golden over McMillan would be dumb.

Frankly, if you are trying to help Dak, McMillan and his catch radius and size and hands makes better sense than Golden. But people like guys that run fast, even if they aren't as good.

Golden fans who claim we need him because we need a burner, who was the "burner" on Philly last year?

Why?

Would you like him if they were drafting at 20 or do you just not see him as a 1st round talent?
I think Golden can become a very solid #2 WR. My comp would be Tyler Lockett. I don’t want to draft a guy with WR2 ceiling at pick 12 though.

Picked in the 18-25 range with an extra 3rd? Sure, I wouldn’t be upset at all. But I think Golden is being pumped up 10-15 picks purely because of his 40 time.

I also don’t see much of a gap between Golden and Burden,

If you watched Golden it's not because if his 40 time. He was already being graded as a 1st round pick before the combine. It just solidified what you see on tape. If you watched him at all, and all the the bad passes, the kid is good. He also has better hands than burden.

Lockett was getting 8+ td and 900+ yards for like 6 years straight once he started getting playing time. I also think Golden can be better than Lockett.

Also, does Golden really help you in the red zone? I think Golden is a smokescreen for all the Texas fanboys.

At 12, Hampton would be a bigger difference maker.
I still like Tmac but Golden is really good in the red zone .

Preach! I prefer getting that DT earlier than the third round but it's better than nothing guess... I realize that we need CB and RB pretty badly too,,,, a real GM would fix one of those issues in FA without scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Cowboys
1(12) Matthew Golden WR Texas
2(44) Quinshon Judkins RB Ohio St.
3(76) Shemar Turner DT Texas A&M
5(149) Korie Black CB Oklahoma St.
5(174) Fadil Diggs EDGE Syracuse
6(204) Cody Simon LB Ohio St.
6(211) Jordan Hancock CB/S Ohio St.
7(217) Kitan Crawford S Nevada
7(239) Hayden Conner G Texas
7(247) Jack Nelson T Wisconsin

I would rather take a number one tight in rather than a number two wide receiver at 12.

Hard to read what Golden is, because he played with Bond, who also drew coverage.

I definitely think 12 is too rich for Golden.

This seems like a reach for need draft. IMO
I would draft someone else as well. I am not totally sure if this is not a fake out. Golden at his best could be a non crazy Antonio Brown. That is well worth a 12th pick.
