TY for all that you have done for my city....for the community....and for the Spurs.

He is one of my 3 favorite Spurs of all time, along with David Robinson and Mike Mitchell.

I am so happy he is getting his jersey retired....he definitely deserves it.

Congrats to him. Have the outpost respect for him as a player. Best defensive player since Rodman and an outstanding shooter in his prime as well. People say he's dirty we'll I think he was just very, very aggressive. As a Lakers fan I know full well how good he was defensively. He guarded Kobe like no other in all those great Lakers/Spurs battles. Kobe still put up numbers, but he had to work like hell to get them.

hell yeah.......and as much as i dislike kobe, i have great respect for him, cause he is one of the only ones to not whine like a baby.....instead he accepted the challege....and always gave Bowen props.

there might have been defenders before bruce that were just as good, but you cant convince me anyone was better. he shut down PGs in the playoffs, from D-will to billups. He defended taller people like lebron and dirk, better than anyone has ever defended them, before or after. Even Kobe has stated many times that he enjoyed playing vs him because he was his biggest challenge individually as a scorer and no one guarded him better. Here is to Bruce Bowen, a great human being who puts a lot of time in the community with kids in San Antonio, a complete class act and a player whom without the spurs might now win those three titles he was involved with.

I remember during the 05 playoffs, some sonics fan sitting in front of us at the ATT center goes "why are they booing at the spurs player?!?!" haha, good times, it was an older lady btw. sonics fans were really nice.

I just turned my ankle reading the name bruce.....is his foot underneath me?

Dirk actually gives Bowen credit for pushing him to further develope parts of his game. Not that he ever needed pushing, but that is nice praise.
There were 2-3 years, before Dirk had learned to seriously school smaller players, that Bowen was crazy good (with help) vs Dirk. He was part of the reason he mastered that fadaway a part of the reason he improved in passing out of double teams.
Bowen was one of the 5-6 best defenders of the last decade, imo.

of course you would say that! you worship a guy that plays no defense, so you just cant appreciate the art of defense on the basketball court. either way...

Wasn't it Ray Allen?

ya he got into it with ray allen, but that was the time he kicked him the back when they were both on the ground, the landing on his foot incident was vince when he was with the nets. he lost his cool and got ejected, and the spurs destroyed the nets after that. bruce never injured anyone, just made them uncomfortable and got under their skin.
