Bryan Broaddus

What is the story behind Bryan Broaddus? I see many articles/chat sessions by him on espn dallas and listen to GAC occasionally. I don't understand the fanfare for this guy. I do understand he was a nfl scout but he was fired, correct? Not sure how much stock to put into his comments.

he knows more than 99% of the posters on this board (me included) but sometimes points out or says things about players that arent popular thus the lack of fanfare. I like him because he says it like it is....he shoots straight and doesnt worry about ruffling any feathers. He is definitely worth listening too. He was spot on about Lenord Davis before it became obvious to average fan that he was in decline. I suggest listening to him over reading his articles...his use of words on radio suggest he has scout experience and gives you insight to what they look at and how meetings unfold.

Well, he said Garrett was not really respected by the Cowboys brass and we'd go with a proven winner.

Looks to me like he's batting way below the Mendoza line.

he said Dallas brass felt Garrett was green (which he is) but maybe the last few games proved he was ready and Jerry bit the bullet and named Garrett HC.

Scouting hours are killer and you are constantly on the road. It's nuts. I don't blame Broaddus for wanting to land somewhere doing somewhere something else. It doesn't mean he's failed.

Even Ciskowski who is the kingpin here is on the road a lot. Not flying first class and taking a cab, but renting cars in Kansas and driving six hours to Iowa or something where you book a Motel 6.

You wonder why scouts miss so much on players. Partly because it's hard to find anyone insane enough to do it. Joel Buchsbaum might have been the best one and he stayed in his room.

The homers and arm chair GMs here kill me. Broaddus has been spot on about alot of stuff, mostly from his contact at VR, and all some morons in here want to do is rip the guy.

because he committed blasphamey by saying Romo might not be the franchise QB some where hoping he would be. His analysis on the offensive line over past few years has been spot on. And his stories of the inner working/nuts and bolts of being a pro scout and how they make decisions is some of the best radio I have heard.

He is good but his word is not the word of GOD. He has been wrong (Ball) just like everyone else can be. But he will be right a lot more than wrong which is a big step up on most here.

Some pretty harsh opinions of him here.

I think the DCfanatic connection probably has a lot to do with it.

He was right about Jason Williams, but the writing was on the wall there.
He was right about Jason Williams, but for the wrong reasons. He thought we had excellent depth at ILB so there wasn't enough room for him. He was really high on Leon Williams for example. Turns out, we have no depth at ILB and Leon Williams is less than a JAG.

I dont see anything wrong with people that dont agree with him, hell I dont agree with some of what he says either.

But I do like the fact that someone that was employed at that level actually participated here. I'd hate to think he was run off and wouldnt come back.

Of all the comments in this thread, I think this sums it up best.

I think some people are down on him because he isn't all rainbows and butterflies about every Cowboys player. If you want that, read Spagnola.

I know I was bashed pretty good when I was critical of Roy Williams (the safety) when it was becoming pretty apparent his skills were slipping and he was becoming a liability.

Broaddus is right on some things, wrong on others. Like any scout. There isn't anyone in the league that is 100% correct. But I do like the perspective of a former pro scout. He knows more football than all of the beat writers combined.

JJT won't even bother talking about the draft because he can't bother to do any research. Most people on this forum put in more time than him in our spare time. Inexcusable if that is your full time job.

Out of all the mediots this team is subjected to, this is the guy the mob decides to string up?

LOL!

Sad but true.

The former scout would be the one with the most informed opinion from his experience.

I'll take his word over a blogger.

Clockwork.

Just FYI, Spags doesn't really write much for DC.COM. Eatman seems to have taken his place.

Re: Broaddus, I think someone hit the nail on the head with suggesting listening to Broaddus versus reading his work.

He's not a trained journalist and it's gotta be difficult to translate his knowledge and expertise to something the layman can understand. Writing an official scouting report for a NFL team is alot different than writing articles for a mass audience who is not near as informed as the dumbest fan we have on the Zone (ie Yeager).

I think his Scouts Eye articles contain some pretty good nuggets of info, but he could prolly take a tip from Sturm's Decoding Jason Garrett blogs on what sorta detail that would appease the diehards.
