I guess we'd agree to disagree...IMO Crayton >>> Johnson or any other free agent still left out there...and from an upside basis, I think Austin has more to offer too

I'd rather just wait for the draft than sign someone who clearly isnt an upgrade and would be someone that would need to be replaced next yr...if that doesnt work, there's free agency next yr and Roy Williams...I'd rather save the cap space than sign a JAG like Johnson and waste cap space we could use towards a real upgrade

David

I don't disagree with what you are saying, but just that there are a good many receivers that wouldn't beat out the 2 ahead of him. I also like Crayton and some of our young guys. I also hope we could squeeze one more good year out of Glenn.

I never said Fitz was inconsistent. By reading the thread you should realize that.

As all of you know, I like Johnson and have for several years. I think he's a perfect fit to our offense. You need 4 good quality WRs. TO is not young. Crayton has shown promise but he will have to do more to become a real #2 WR. Glenn, IMO, is done. All the rest of our WRs are projects. I am in favor of trying to bring him in. I spoke with Fox Sports the other day about Johnson. They were amazed that Johnson is not getting more play. Currently, he has only scheduled visits with Buffalo and Washington. I am very much in favor of trying to have him in and see what he might be interested in. I think it only makes sense to do this. I am also in favor of drafting a young WR early. I like Hardy of Indiana.

Actually you did say Fitz. You meant Johnson, but said Fitz.

Crayton had more catches, yards, and TDs as a #2 last year than I believe Johnson has ever had, in any single season, of his whole career.

When I was looking last night I don't think Johnson has caught more than 1 or 2 TD passes in a single season except once. I think he had 4 one year. Johnson would be too expensive a pick up to be a #3 here. He'd be no better than a 3 cause he wouldn't be out PC for the 2 spot and if, by some miracle, Terry was able to play at a high level again then you'd be paying Johnson that money to be no more than a 4.

No thanks.

You're not being very objective in the comparison.

No kidding. Last year, Crayton started 13 games.

50 catches, 697 yards, 13.9 YPC, 7 TDs.

Johnson started 8 games, saw fewer opportunities, worked with a much worse QB and produced the following.

46 Catches, 528 yards, 11.5 YPC, 2 TDs.

The year before, he again started 8 games and produced the following.

40 Catches, 740 yards, 18.5 YPC, 7 TDs.

So much for the never producing more then Crayton theory.

I wish we'd bring this guy in. He was a first round pick, so I think he still has some upside. They drafted Boldin in the same year, then took Larry Fitz the next year. I think he could be a nice #2 receiver and is better than Crayton. You draft a guy this year and when T.O. heads off into the sunset, you have Johnson, Crayton, the marquee draft pick, and some combo of Hurd, Austin, and Stanback rounding out the receiving corps.

well if you are going to take that approach you might also want to share with everyone the numbers on team passing attempts and rushing attempts

Arizona has thrown the ball more than us, and run the ball far less than us the pasts everal years, and they used a 3 WR offense as their base for most of the last 3-4 yrs...

Well then we might as well factor in weather, what both Crayton and Johnson had for breakfast the morning of the game, their shoe size, what their favorite color is, etc.

its obvious jerry doesnt want to release any of the scrubs on he team, or want to restructure any people who are underacheiving(roy, carp, spears) so nobody will be signed. and dallas will be depending on a guy with a dead leg in glenn. 08 another disappointment, im used to it.

Not arguing Johnson's worth, but I believe Arizona drafted Fitzgerald because Denny Green was in love with him. One of those situations where it might not have mattered who else was on the roster.

****, I'm in love with him too! :lmao2:

No matter how you slice it David, more opportunities were available for Crayton last year, if for no other reason then he was the first read more often then Johnson was. He was the second read more often the Johnson was. I will add that because Arizona was not very good at protecting the QB for the past few seasons, they have gone with more max protect blocking schemes so really, they have not ran all that much 3 WR sets. The Cards ran the ball 402 times last year. We ran the ball 419 times. The difference is about 1 offensive rushing play a game. This does not make up for the difference in opportunities for Crayton. He started most of last year. That's the overriding factor IMO.
