  • Team captain Antrell Rolle has also questioned the commitment of his team. Rolle stated that he thinks the team can still run the table and win the NFC East with a 12-4 record, but does not think the team shares his confidence. He recently told WFAN radio in New York "Honestly speaking, I really don't believe that everyone believes that we can win within our locker room."
  • As evidenced by the meager seven points on the scoreboard, the New York offensive output remains dismal. The Giants went three-and-out on their first five second half possessions and were 1 for 14 on third downs against the Chiefs.

  • Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett's defense had allowed more yardage than any team in league history through three games, but finally showed up on the field in Oakland. After spotting the Raiders 14 points in the first quarter on Sunday, they shut down the Oakland offense for the rest of the game. Although they still suffered from a series of missed tackles, Haslett's squad was able to do enough to help the Skins pull out their first victory of the season.
  • Things have the potential continue improving for the Washington defense. Defensive end Jarvis Jenkins and linebacker Rob Jackson have returned from a pair of four game suspensions for violating the NFL substance abuse policy.
  • Quarterback Robert Griffin,III appears to be regaining some of the running form that he displayed last season. He had a handful of decent runs in the read-option against the Raiders and displayed some shiftiness that had been lacking in prior games.
  • While the Commanders finally got in the win column, as our friends at Hog's Haven stated, it was an ugly win and there is still a lot of work to do for Washington.

The offense was underwhelming once again. The Commanders offense continued their scoreless 1st quarter streak and only put up 3 points in the first half. That puts their offensive point total at 10 first half points through 4 games.

  • The vaunted Chip Kelly offense is still struggling to put points on the board, especially in the red zone, and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur knows why. They keep shooting themselves in the foot.

"Well, I think we need to score more points. Certainly, when we’re in the red zone we want touchdowns. … When I looked at what we’ve done in the red zone, we’ve kind of stopped ourselves in some areas. You get a bad play or two down there and then you put yourself in a third-and-long situation. We need to be more efficient there on all our downs in the red area." - Pat Shurmur

  • Also having issues is the Philly defense. As the folks over at BGN are lamenting, the defense has no identity. Is it a 3-4? Maybe a 4-3? Strangely nobody really knows if there is a base scheme at all. Heck, the fans are wondering if there is even a scheme at all.

The closest thing to an identity I can infer is a defense driven by the strengths of its personnel, a defense that can be amoebic , capable of morphing from scheme to scheme in order to confuse and attack opposing offenses. Instead what we have is an absence of purpose and intent, a flirtation with "3-4" and "4-3 under" schemes, experiments with defensive ends playing linebacker, and odd personnel decisions (Free Curry!). Through four games, Billy Davis’ product is on pace to be not just bad, but historically bad. The Eagles are allowing 34.5 points per game. The only team that has allowed more is the Giants, who have allowed 36.5. The Eagles are on pace to give up 552 points this season. The legendary 1981 Colts gave up 533 points, the most in NFL history.

The 2000 Ravens gave up 165 points that entire season. That is 27 more points than the Eagles have given up after just 4 games.
