no rod smith is running on scrubs. He isnt very good against a starting defense, thats why hes been a fb

He's lost quite a bit of weight since then.

With the Zeke suspension looming, we might actually need him as a reserve.

I never get excited about "that RB guy" that shows potential but is 4th string. But Rod looks like an NFL starter or at least a 3rd down back.

He isn't a fluke. And he could legitimately help another team in this league right now. And I think he will if we cut him.

You could say the same thing about Morris. But the place we suffered with McFadden was short yardage. This could be the reason to keep Smith.

You have low expectations for a starter. I like Smith as a backup ST type but he is not nearly dynamic enough to merit a starting role on a contender.

Nope. Smith is a feel good preseason story. Let's not get carried away. Sure he might get a very very few number of carries when Zeke is out but that will be the extent of his contributions on offense.

No, I think he'll be a valuable role player for us. He's not the next Zeke, but likely more valuable to us than Dunbar. He's clearly got talent, and versatility ensures him a roster spot.

Based upon Rod Smith's performance in preseason games, he certainly deserves to win a spot in our RB rotation. His versatility and strong performances in every preseason game speak for themselves. He's an extremely forceful runner, a fine receiver and blocker as well.
Do we know this as fact, does he truly do both well, or does he attempt to do both, that's the difference and how he makes the cut. I think he will be on this 53, just my opinion from what I see right now.
I see Smith as a finisher, and short yardage goal line back initially, with the ceiling to be a devastating 3rd down back if he continues to develop the traits mentioned above, buts its rare when a RB with his size coming from no where, succeeds,, not saying he cant, but it is rare.

Rod's a guy who is developing impressively and improves every time he gets into a game. He is one to keep an eye on now and for the near future. He's sure to be getting more exposure in the last 2 preseason contests. It's easy to admire the skills and versatility that we're seeing from him. I do believe he's really come a long way from the guy we saw in 2016. He's a trimmer RB now and considerably quicker and more agile than last year. Don't be surprised if the staff finds a place for him in the RB rotation.

I think Rod fits our Oline very well. I like Morris and I think he is our most tradeable RB. If DMAC fumbles again at the end of a long drive......I am done with him. That was a pitiful fumble

I don't think Elliott sits this year anyway so I think we look to get something for DMAC or Morris and keep Smith

My problem with DMC from his first day in the league is that he can never get small, meaning he runs like a WR with the ball, and why he got blasted and fumbled as you stated in your comment.
He will always be a liability in that regard, but the simple truth is we have to go with what we have at this point due to the Zeke situation. Can we survive until week 8, only time will tell the true story, but honestly I believe its going to have to come from an unsuspected source, I'm rolling the dice on upside ceiling,, that's Rod Smith.

DMac has never really been a fumbler, I don't think thats a problem to worry about.

We do need to know about what happens with Zeke, or we can't even think about moving or cutting DMac, Morris, or Smith. We can't play 6 games with 2 RBs, especially with DMac's injury history.

I figure we keep all 3.

I think Rod Smith a) makes the team, and b) is Zeke's backup of the future.

I think the 2018 running back depth chart will be: Elliott, R. Smith, McFadden/Morris (toss up, salary cap, etc.)

If I'm not mistaken, Rod Smith also plays special teams, which Morris does not. So he can: run the ball, pass protect, lead block, and play special teams. He's basically a fullback, backup halfback, and ST gunner for the price of a street free agent. He'll make the 53.

Keep all 3 until you hear zeke is available. Morris imo would net us the most in a trade, swing something for him when the Zeke show is a go.

I will say i like the way rod has run hungry. If he continues then he's certainly earned some snaps in zekes absence, imo.

He's also running behind scrubs. Have we seen him against a starting defense?
Cowboys have really good depth at the OL. i wouldnt call Cleary, bell, looney, green and skipper scrubs. i think all could start for some team in the nfl.

Well, I can't say I'm an expert on other teams depth, but would presume Arizona DL depth at least is comparable to our OL depth and Rod had a nice games against them.

Since we both are taking a small sample size I am not sure why you so adamantly believe this. Without Zeke our RB weakness is short yardage. I like Smith above the other two for that. Let's see how this plays out.
