The lack of takeaways has a lot to do with it, too. But, yeah, the bad QB play has killed us.

I'd say the special teams are worse than anything to do with the defense. Claiborne blew the coverage but we gave up a huge KO return a play before.

Well, we'll only win vs. those teams that suffer with similar unfortunate dire straits that we find ourselves in. Addressing our QB deficiencies is a problem that has persisted for far too long for the Cowboys to function as a formidable contender. If it isn't addressed in 2016, it is only likely to raise its ugly head again next year and/or beyond. Our backup and developmental QB deficiencies, along with our defensive backfield issues, must be resolved before this team can become a legitimate contender for postseason glory.

The Dallas Cowboys have won two of their last three games
Barely into the article and there is already a big contradiction with something in the text supporting the exact opposite of the headline.

That is something I would expect from the media. Sensationalized headline to get clicks.

Honestly, I think the lack of TOs has as much to do with it as the QB play. We're -14 in that category (last in the league). Give even Weeden or Cassell another shot with the ball (especially on the plus side of the field) and I think the momentum and outcome of a lot of those one score games are much different.

It is what it is and the QB play has been less than stellar but giving the ball away and not taking it back has absolutely killed this team.

Belicheck won 10 games with him. Oh wait, he's actually a good coach.

I wish people would stop bringing this up like it's at all relevant. That was years ago in a totally different situation. Hey, Tebow won a playoff game so he should be able to get a team to the playoffs again, right?

It's just too hard to win consistently when you can't get an edge in either of those areas.

I feel like I can confidently say that if we had slightly better QB play OR an extra takeaway or two in any of the following losses, they'd have been wins:

Atlanta, the 2nd Giants game, the 2nd Eagles game, the Saints game.

That's a big swing in W/L right there. And we're talking a few plays. The gap between winning and losing is truly razor thin in this league.

You can add the Seahawks and Bucs game to that list as well.

The lack of takeaways and the QB situation are both examples of bad luck, but the QB situation has the added element of bad planning. And the QB situation is handicapping us every bit as much as the lack of takeaways. It isn't just the 4 points we lose every time we settle for a FG instead of a TD, it's the 7 points we lose because of the TD we don't get from outside of FG range.

Dallas TD scored from outside opp 40
2014: 8 (tied for 2nd in NFL)
2015: 1 (tied for last)

Dallas red zone TD%
2014: 64.7% (2nd)
2015: 44.1% (28th)

Dallas TD% on drives NOT following a takeaway
2014: 30.0% (1st)
2015: 14.9% (29th)

That's one game, and only because the dude had like 80 yards after the catch. Cassell won 10.

Sorry, our running game is no where near last years.
It depends on how you judge a running game. Yards per carry is down, but we're facing more stacked boxes this year without the downfield passing threat. Substitute Murray for McFadden, and YPC would probably go up a bit, even with Weeden and Cassel at QB, but YPC is not what wins games anyway, as has been proven over and over. Short yardage and time of possession are more important than yards per carry. Passer rating dwarfs them all.

And both our short-yardage runs and our TOP are up from last year. In passer rating, we've gone from 1st to 28th. There's your problem.

If our offense was average, and average 24 pts a game, we would have won almost all those games.

We lost with a +2 differential as well.

Thanks to the offense giving up what 4 pick 6s this season. .....when offense struggles to score points then turn around and give points to the opponent is hard to win. My point is ya sacks and turnovers can help win games but you can still win with negative turnover diff
