News: BTB: Cowboys Looking To Bolster Defensive Line?

We've recounted the injuries that have hit the defensive line so far in the Dallas Cowboys 2013 training camp. The organization made comments about filling those spots from within the ranks, but you still need guys to take some of the reps in practice. Every once in a while, camp bodies that you sign can turn into something more. So who are the Cowboys looking at?

The National Football Post has a source telling them that the Cowboys will sign defensive end George Selvie. Selvie has played with a few teams in the NFL since being drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 draft. Selvie played college ball at South Florida and was a teammate of Jason Pierre-Paul. He is 6' 4" and 270 pounds, with career stats of 42 tackles and three sacks. He's played for St. Louis, Carolina and Jacksonville, and was attempting to make the Giants last year. Here's some excerpts from a NY Post article about him last offseason.

Back then, Selvie looked like a can’t-miss prospect in the NFL. He played at South Florida from 2006-09. He was a consensus All-American and the Big East Defensive player of the year in 2007, when he collected 14.5 sacks. But his numbers tailed off; he had 5.5 sacks in 2008 and 3.5 in 2009, the year JPP joined the Bulls and collected 6.5 sacks.

After being selected by the Rams in the seventh round of the 2010 draft, Selvie played one season in St. Louis before being released. He was with the Panthers early in 2011 before joining the Jaguars, with whom he finished out 2011 and played all of 2012. It appeared he was headed for a fresh start when he signed with the Buccaneers last month just before the draft, but he was released on Monday. He has just three sacks in his pro career.

We'll see if Dallas actually signs Selvie, but The National Football Post sounded pretty sure.

Another defensive lineman supposedly drawing interest from Dallas is Amobi Okoye.

Team officials have no plans at the moment to bring in any linemen for a workout, but the team does have one roster spot available on their 90-man roster. The goal is to fill that spot with a defensive lineman.

Okoye played in nine games last season for the Chicago Bears under then-defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, who is now the defensive line coach for the Cowboys. Okoye, a 2007 first-round pick by the Houston Texans, has 16 career sacks.

Okoye is 6' 2" and 292 pounds and would seem like a fit at DT, where he's played most in his career.
