Why are people still trying to compare Dak with RGIII? RGIII's own teammates said he couldn't read defenses. Dak is no where close to being an RGIII.

I hear you, and agree.
But my point was that Nick Foles was also in the conversation.

And fwiw, Dak also didn't play under center at all in college and was pretty mobile, so there was that.

But yes, they've always seem uncomparable overall to me.

True but from what I read his coach his senior year finally put in pro style route combinations and started having him go through pro progressions.

The spread is unlikely to go away ever because it helps take advantage of the mismatches that the huge variance in talent you see in the NCAA.

Anyone that tries to compare Dak to RG is just being lazy or influenced by race. The only things they have in common are the QB position and their skin color.

His approach to the game reminds me of Aikman. He really does not want to throw INTs and will throw the ball away. Aikman didn't get the same Wow reviews by the media and fans as a guy like Farve, but Aikman was the one you wanted on your team if you're a Head Coach.

Physically, McNabb is probably a good comp to Dak; although, Dak seems more accurate.

Agreed!

Dak's game isn't a "gimmick"; he exhibits hard-work and knowledge of the game that helped to make him the player that he was; yes, the scheme was ball-control with the game's best OLine and a shiny new RB to lead the league in rushing...but, Dak had to learn on the fly, no one at this time last year saw him starting, let alone having the year that he did

I am excited to see how he develops this year and into the future, this will be a fun ride

It's gonna be funny when he starts to struggle reading coverages...and people can't figure out why...and start wanting Moore as the starter... Romo/Moore were telling him where to go w/ the football last year. Hopefully I'm wrong...but I'm not going to be shocked when he suddenly can't find open receivers.

Very good article.

There is a small group of posters that refuse to see Dak as legit. This article pretty much obliterates any justification for this belief.

Since these posters never seem to offer any reasonable explanation for their position, now would be the time for them to provide that information with the data that challenges the conclusions in this article.

A more logical comparasion for those trying to diminish Dak would be Nick Foles in Philly. I believe it was his sophomore season but he came out of nowhere, got red hot and really put together one of the best seasons in NFL history while relying on his very good supporting cast and avoiding mistakes.

I wouldn't make that comparasion, Dak is the real deal but comparing him to RGIII has more to do with race than play. Dak doesn't really scramble much, it's literally a last resort so there is zero comparasion between him and Griffin in regards to playing style.

Foles' success also came in a gimmick offense, like RGIII's. That is one thing Dak certainly has over both of them. The sustainability of the scheme should contribute to his ability to continue his success. If for some reason the running attack quit working, then it would be natural for there to be some drop-off as teams could focus more on stopping the passing game and more pressure would be put on the passing game to carry the offense.

That's not a slight against Dak, just the reality of the game. The more of the load you are forced to carry, the harder it is to bear the burden. Fortunately, I can't see defenses being able to take their attention off stopping this running game first. And with a year to grow, that could make Dak even better than he was last year in some ways.

So you're saying he's a good listener too? I'm finding more and more to like about this Dak Prescott fellow. ;) :D

Never compared Dak to RG3. Completely different in just about every way you can think of.

Dak is a very stable and solid person at his core. RG3 is very mercurial and out there.
I cannot see one thing to compare them except that both had great success their first year. Dak is the one that you can expect great success to continue. Never thought RG3 would make it much farther either mentally r physically.

Dak is way more mature than RG3 was in his rookie year. There's still some chance RG3's career will rebound, and I have nothing against him, but Dak has gotten a better start than he did. He's built a better foundation to build from.

( note to self:
Its imperative that Mr. Prescott does Not do a Campbell's chunky soup commercial)
I agree/concur with @Reverend Conehead.

we see where those quarterbacks and the read-option as a base offense, which is how the 2012 Commanders and Griffin were using it, are today.

Yeah, Russell Wilson has gone nowhere. And I'm sure the complete collapse of the 49ers as a franchise had nothing to do with the failings of Kaepernick. It was all the read option.

This article is revisionist and uses flawed logic.

However, the title is correct. Dak isn't, and won't be RG3. Nobody ever said he would be.

There's not any comparison to race either.
RGIII is black. Dak is bi-racial.
