To continue the series, we now shift focus to the later rounds, this of course is a good place to be as lots of talent will still be available.
Perhaps the best part of this draft is the fact that it provides more quality of depth than we've seen in quite some time. A lot positions stretch a little further than in recent memory. Though some fans only pay attention to the names taken on the first day, we here at BTB expect quality and contribution even into rounds four and five. With that said, here are a few names that could be of interest for Dallas at pick 127:
1. Select Chris Conley, WR, Georgia
This may a long-shot because he's garnered some attention as of late, but Conley has been a player the Cowboys certainly like. He's quick and can really burn a defense but has steady hands to develop into something much more. Conley has a great frame for the NFL and is a special teams demon. The Cowboys have a need at wide receiver with the loss of Dwayne Harris. What Conley can bring is some of those things that were possibly unappreciated at times with Harris. Dwayne was an excellent return man, but he also provided quite the blocking prowess and ability to play the gunner position. All of these things are traits that Conley could excel at. If Conley is there, you have to take him and be pleased with that pick.
2. Select Jordan Hicks, OLB, Texas
Hicks really bought into Charlie Strong's system over at Texas and Strong has some similarities to the style Marinelli brings. There are some durability concerns with Hicks but he's looking to shake that label. Hicks is an outstanding tackler and though he may be a little small, he knows how to make plays and open-field tackles. Hicks isn't a violent tackler by any means but he can deliver a pop. Jordan had good production in his senior season after being troubled by injuries in 2012-2013. He fits best as an outside backer in the 4-3 and could wind up competing for Dallas' Sam position. Hick has also carved some chops as a pass rusher which may intrigue some clubs.
3. Select Anthony Chickillo, DE, Miami
This is a guy that fits the mold of a Marinelli defensive lineman. He's got a tremendous frame with the motor and intelligence to match it. Chickillo was a noticeable warrior for the Canes. He's super strong up front and plays with some speed. He'll need some help in developing his quick-twitch as well as staying balanced but the effort is outstanding. Anthony certainly has above average footwork which will help him at the next level and is durable as can be having started 47 games for Miami. Chickillo comes from a family of football with both his grandfather and father being drafted NFL players. I think that Chickillo could come right in and help the Cowboys in their rotation that needs some life brought to it. He's a pusher and leader, two great things for a defensive line in rebuild mode.
4. Select Kevin White, CB, TCU
White is small but boy is he feisty, I like smaller corners if they don't back down and White isn't going to do that ever. He's also pretty physical and can shut down receivers despite his size. White is one of those scrappy guys that would fit well in just about any system. In Dallas, White could allow for Orlando Scandrick to complete his transition outside. Kevin is rangy and has some speed to him but needs to work on not being overaggressive. TCU has produced some good defensive backs recently and White is another solid candidate. If the Cowboys want to double up on a position in-flex, grabbing White in the fourth could be of service.
5. Select Ty Montgomery, WR, Stanford
Montgomery is a really intelligent player with great character marks in college. He's best suited for special teams duties but could be dynamic in the passing game if utilized properly. Like Conley, Montgomery has some true speed and is extremely well-built. Montgomery has got quite the attention from teams looking for than explosive returner. In fact, some scouts are convinced he could make the Pro Bowl. He definitely needs to polish his receiving skills and work on his hands but Montgomery would be a solid pick to fill the hole in the Dallas return game.
6. Select Mark Glowinski, OG, West Virginia
The Cowboys are going to have to find a nice swing-man or eventual replacement for Ronald Leary who has a degenerative knee condition. Mark is a versatile athlete that has played both tackle and guard. He's a gym rat who loves to work put and lift weights. He has tremendous power in his upper body and uses it as leverage against opponents. He has good initial quickness with the agility needed for blocking in space. He's also got great hand placement and is a very tough competitor. He has that relentless motor that keeps ticking and uses his power to win and discard defenders with ease. He's very aware and has great play recognition with the footwork of a tackle. He shows a little stiffness and needs to learn to play lower. Glowinski will also need development to not get into hand fighting at times and could improve his knee-bend and foot-slide. Glowinski could help Dallas keep churning their already dominant offensive line.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's look at the Cowboys fifth-round options. It's almost here ladies and gentleman, thank goodness for that.
